Max did you actually sell the wagon? or am I misreading your signature?

Ā

Sold it with a broken 5mt. I have been knowing I need to let it go for a while. I knew it wasn't smart to plan on driving it to VT again to ski each week. So when the 5mt broke, that was the final straw.Ā

I have full 5MT drivetrain - tranny, driveshaft, rear diff - sitting in the shed... Would have given it to you... Sad.

Havenā€™t taken a proper winter photo, but I did snap one in all its dirty glory while waiting for a haircut.Ā
Ā

Also had to start it in -3F this morning. One of the hvac fans complained with a bunch of squeaking about that, otherwise the wagon took it like a champ.Ā

I also had a spare 5mt in the shed, it went with the car. Driving the 18' Outback to VT skiing...it was time. The 3.6 makes the 300 mile round trip ride pleasant. Thanks anyway.

Ā

Just got home from VT after skiing for 4 days, took the outback through the carwash, put it in the new garage, and it just started raining, that big storm moving across the country. The Spec B is clean and well waxed, parked next to the garage. It doesn't get driven much this time of year...but does have its snow tires on, just in case.Ā

Ā

For the snow porn, here's the wagon Dec 31 2017. I have pictures of it berried in snow too

Oh, found one, from Mar 8 2018, at the house in VT

replacing old power steering fluid will help if you haven't done that in a while. Even getting most of of the filling tank and replacing that with fresh will have noticeable effect. Do it few days in a row after driving and you'll have much more quiet PS.

@PleidesĀ check out that o-ring atop the PS pump.

Power steering fluid is one year old roughly and the o-ring was replaced around that time too, maybe a bit before then. Drove her today (sitting at Surgeline right now, I see your car here @shralp) and yeah, she's definitely gonna need some PS work. Might just be an excuse for an STi rack finally.

Wishing I could garage my wagon before the below zero weather hits, but the Odyssey is half torn down in there right now. Dealing with my third round of confirmed COVID that interrupted my work on the wife's minivan.Ā  Also had someone ask if they could by my '99 wagon, declined.

Fun game. Victory shot of the OBXT shortly after lowering the fresh motor in and a shot of the bad EJ coming out of the LGT.

Pretty valve covers. I'm thinking of polishing mine then sending the long block in to get Ceramakote clear.

The only modification on the LGT in that photo that I can take credit/blame for is the white wheels (they were black and pretty beat up). Everything else gets the "it was like that when I got here" disclaimer.

There is no excuse to NOT have the sti rack. Itā€™s fantastic.Ā
Ā

Iā€™ve come around to accept the sti steering knuckle. Ā Info did it over, Iā€™d likely leave the oem LGT knuckle with damper.Ā

Euro console got delivered today! Missing the e-brake boot but still the best $200 I've spent on the wagon. Hopefully I can carve out some time between the holidays to get it installed. If anyone is looking for the USDM SpecB 6spd shifter trim let me know as I'll have my for sale in the near future.Ā

Would you mind sharing where this is sourced and/or part numbers?

I got mine from "08Spec_B" here. He said he gets batches in now and then in tan and black. He painted a tan one black for me since that's all he had. And put LEDs in the cupholders. Looks great and if the black is different from the rest of the black interior I can't tell.

got new boots from redlinegoods.com too, as they have the option for round shifter base (they are in Poland), in black with red stitching.

I was a bit worried my LED's weren't bright enough.Ā  I wanted it to look like the car was on fire, since I'm calling this the Devil's wagon.Ā  These look insane.

Also polished the headlights.Ā  I thought they were siliver on the inside because they had so much road rash.Ā  Once I looked closer, I noticed they are already black.Ā  I wanted to get rid of the amber corners, but on my test one noticed you will have visible holes where they clip in.Ā  Good enough.

Ran twist-lok hose from the transmission oil filter to my thermostat, and then back to the return line on trans.Ā  Just need to connect the 2 lines from thermostat to cooler and that is done.

Our daughter and BF live in Duluth about 200 miles north of the Twin Cities MN.Ā  She called frantic on Friday saying her 2008 Legacy had all dash lights on and was dying and then stalled and was dead.Ā  They had it towed to their apt.Ā  Based on her descriptions my son and I figured dead battery and/or alternator so we grabbed one of my spare alternators and lots of tools and headed out 6AM Saturday/yesterday for the long and SLOW drive ~200 miles north.Ā  I35 was glare ice for long portions of the drive but we made the trip in 4 hours.Ā  Picked up a new battery at Fleet Farm and installed it.Ā  Car started fine but batt light on so we swap out the alternator on the street in -5 temps.Ā  Got it all back together started it up and good to go.Ā  We had Christmas planned at our place so daughter, BF, their cat, my son and I loaded up the two vehicles and made the slow and scary drive back to the Twin Cities.Ā  Arrived back at home yesterday afternoon.Ā  We are all home safe and sound and the Legacy worked perfect on the drive home.Ā  That was a LONG day of driving on ice covered roads in -5 to -10 temps.

Have a happy and safe Merry Christmas everyone!Ā  Stay Warm!
