The Raceseng topologi has treated me very nicely. They have one simlar to the shape of the lathewerks one you are looking at also: http://www.raceseng.com/slammer-shift-knob-wrinkle-finish-subaru-5-speed-manual

Thx!! I love it (not the 5 speed versions), they have two 6 speed versions that I like. Both stainless finish, one is around 735g, the other around 635g or 1.4lb. The 635g one is more round, fits better in palms.

Oops sorry, I linked the one from the legacy filter. I'm guessing you found the proper ones under the STi filter?

Hows the height compare to the stock knob?

Here's a pic eckseleven. I'd say it is about 1/4" taller than stock. I forget if you have done the Perrin SSA mod. I have and there is no concern about my knuckles hitting the hazard light button. The added height is still very comfortable for me, so much so that I didn't notice it was taller.

Hey Gary, I got the topology: http://www.raceseng.com/topology-shift-knob-subaru-6-speed-manual

I got it used from jackal off the member classifieds. I forget how much the stock knob weighs, but the topology feels quite a bit heavier. Along with all the Perrin shifter mods, shifting feels pretty awesome now. :)

Yours is 475grams, I'm leaning toward this one (500grams) http://www.raceseng.com/slammology-shift-knob-subaru-6-speed-manual with delrin screw on top.

I also like this one (635 grams) http://www.raceseng.com/slammer-shift-knob-subaru-6-speed-manual

They have one at 735grams but looks too big. If it get the full stainless shift knobs, I'm concerned that they might get too hot.

...I've never heard of Raceseng, but after checking out their site the Topology looks very nice. Easily as nice as anything from Lathewerks or the STI aluminum and leather shift knobs I've been considering.

I believe the stock knob weighs in at just over 200 grams IIRC.

I'd imagine the counterweight will make a difference- it's pretty much the same thing as having a heavier shift knob, just with a shorter moment arm. How much of a difference is going to depend on how far out those tabs are from the pivot point, though.

I feel like they spent way more time than it's worth on FEA, though. Also, pretty sure 1200lbf is a little low, unless that's at the shift knob. Some rough calculations based on what I remember from statics tells me that pin should be good up to about 4 times that much force.

Hard to comment on the validity of the stresses in the model without knowing his boundary conditions - that being said, I think he was just looking for hot spots. The 1200 lbs is at the shift knob (at least that's what it says in the post "This part is so over-built that it would take over 1200LBS of force on the shifter to break the lever")

Installed the Perrin short shift adapter with brass washer, STI GroupN tranny mount, and Whiteline positive shift kit today. Haven't driven on it too much but from the time I've spent in the car, I can say I am definitely happy with the way it feels!
