Turkeylord
Yep, or at least makes them saleable. Haven't yet decided if I want to stick with these higher compression pistons. Depends on the block halves I suppose.
kzr750r1
Cheese and Rice. Even the JDM option seems pricy. I picked up a JDM motor for a Civic DX years ago for 300 bucks if I remember correct. New clutch and that thing ripped.
Turkeylord
Got the rods and pistons cleaned up last night. Now I need to take emery cloth to the piston skirts to take care of the high spots, then measure the pistons to see where we're at. http://i.imgur.com/P9jTB7zl.jpg

That's what those things run *EACH*?? Holy crap. Are you sure? 'Cuz I was gonna make a really cool tap handle for my kegerator (I'll just track down a stock rod ) "Bullet-proof" your OEM TMIC! <<Buy your kit here>> Not currently in stock
Turkeylord
That's what those things run *EACH*?? Holy crap.Yup. Good news is that the new rod is nearly identical weight to the original. All 4 are still within a gram. Are you sure? 'Cuz I was gonna make a really cool tap handle for my kegerator (I'll just track down a stock rod )LOL, I thought of that too! Actually, if you find a set of used rods, I might take 2 exactly for that purpose. Which reminds me, the machine shop brought up the idea of buying back my old block and rebuilding that instead. Anyone have concerns about my intended power level on stock LGT rods and crank?

Turkeylord
Need to burn up some personal leave before 3/31, hopefully I can make some progress on the car. I emailed Swaintech this morning about having the pistons coated, that might help any PTW clearance issues I might have. Still need to clean up the pistons and measure. Also found some pics of my car from one of the races I did last summer... http://i.imgur.com/GBopCfI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/I1VX9pD.jpg
Turkeylord
I emailed Swaintech this morning about having the pistons coated, that might help any PTW clearance issues I might have. Still need to clean up the pistons and measure. Thanks for writing. Coating the skirt will provide a solid film of lubrication to help protect the skirt from future damage but will not fill or cover current damage. We don’t make a judgment as to whether a piston is a good piston or not but can say that we can coat used parts as long as they are clean and fully disassembled. I’d rely on the machine shop’s judgment about the usability of the piston. If it is useable and you want to protect the skirt from scuffing and wear coating the skirt is a good option to consider. Regards, Tech's @ Swain Tech Coatings, Inc. Sounds to me like it might be a good option.
JmP6889928
Sounds to me like it might be a good option. I'm building right now and I had my piston skirts molykoted and also had the domes ceramic coated. We had been molykoting piston skirts on race engines for a long time and when you disassemble, you can definitely see the difference it makes on the cylinder walls. We never had one blow up and these were 415-430 c.i. aluminum dirt late model engines turning out about 850 hp and spinning constantly at 8500-9000 rpm for many races. The ceramic coating, according to my engine builder, will keep any deposits off of the top of the pistons and strengthen the top ring land (does anyone recognize THAT term? ) for prolonged rpm and it keeps the dome of the piston rounder (is that a word?) rather than letting it distort from heat. Thumbs up for coating.
Turkeylord
Cleaned up one of the piston's skirts with a diamond file and scotch brite over lunch. Looks pretty good and still measures well. High-tech measuring rig: http://i.imgur.com/hHAja38l.jpg Spec is 3.924. So far so good. http://i.imgur.com/m2cqxrol.jpg Brought it in to the machine shop and they were pleased at how it came out too. Now I have to get the block halves in to them to hone, then we'll see where they wind up. They measure up right to spec right now before honing. Turkeylord
So, on Sunday I went and got my original block back from the builder.
