As an R/C pilot, the whole thing is never going to happen. You wouldn't even have to shoot them down - hack, pirate, or even simply jam the RF signals or the GPS signals to the drones and they'd be lost.

we use something similiar to that at a local racetrack to improve the gps signal due to trees blocking the signal.

Pay attention to things as your removing the engine.

You might find something easy and simple and miss it looking for something bigger that could be the problem.

Good Luck.

Thanks. It's dissapointing and more work, but I know I'll be happy in the end.

The motor ran fantastic until this problem happened. I think I'm going to like the 9.0:1 pistons. It was great off boost, revved better (could be the 15% lighter FW too), and spooled faster than my 16g. Clutch was perfect, my reservations about going to a bigger turbo were gone... I'm going to be really happy with it.

rattling really doesn't make sense... dropping a valve completely would be much more catastrophic... grinding and badness, maybe one is loose rather that than completely dropped. Another (bad) thing could be one of the cam shaft retainers is loose and the camshaft is smacking around? Perhaps a broken valve spring?

Sucks man, at least you're going to get really good at pulling and installing motors ;)

Thanks, yeah, hopefully we'll find out tonight.

The only thing that would make sense to me is one of the exhaust valves is free to bounce. It might bounce different amounts based on how long it takes to sink back into the head and where on the cam shaft it hits, and cause the (unsyncopated, oddly phased, whatever you wanna call it) rhythm I'm hearing. That might also explain why it sounded different when the engine & oil were cold.

Looking at how it works a little more, i'm betting the retainer and retainer key are still good, i'm suspecting the oil seal or guide might be slightly out of square, and as you were saying, the valve could be slow to close, a little harder to open.

Ok, here's what I found.

Looks like some frothy crud came out of the breathers maybe?

Here's what I'm worried about.

See all the bronzy metallics? Where are they from? Are my cam journals borked?

On the plus side it looks like all of the valves are ok, lol...

wow that was some quick work! bronzy particles usually are from the turbo journal bearing. does the turbo shaft have any play?

i think valve guides are also bronze. maybe one of those has been damaged?
