Turkeylord
Whelp, sad update. Beyond bummed. AVCS problem was just a symptom. Took apart my Infamous turbo filter and found more of the same coppery metallics. Pulled the oil pan and there were big bearing flakes all over. Looks like the #3 rod bearing. http://i.imgur.com/ZcrENmsl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/14321Ckl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cF8kFvPl.jpg

Turkeylord
Thanks guys. We're hoping to find a root cause when we tear down the short block, but we may never know.
Brian3676
I saw you used ACL bearings, I have heard that they have quality issues lately. Although, if the engine builder measured everything out before assembling he should have been able to see that... Maybe something was not torqued correctly? SBT
Was just about to post the same thing. Know it's not optimal, nor fun, but on a positive note, the IPT filter did its job. Strongly recommend NOT reusing the oil cooler after this recent issue. Hope you get it sorted soon. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
Turkeylord
Yup, agreed about the IP&T filter - very happy that was in place. Oil cooler and oil pan will be replaced.

Turkeylord
One can wish. He was trying to sell me on ordering a new 257 SB last night, but I definitely feel like forged pistons are a good idea...
boxkita
forged pistons for that long startup time in the morning. extra clearance for the last 5 minutes of your track session when the pistons are reaching molten temps and still need more room. Turkeylord
Finally got word back from the machine shop the other day about the engine. Crank - could be turned but not recommended Pistons - would have to be sanded Cylinders - would have to be honed Carillo Rods - one would need to be replaced Engine builder and machine shop both recommend OEM 257 SB. Safe to run stock pistons with my HTA68 E85 build? So I dunno, New crank, touch up pistons and cylinders, buy 1 new matching rodNew 257, as-isNew 257 plus drop-in forged pistons???
