picking up bmw 328xi w nav monday

Recommended Posts

once you get a bmw, you don't care for the badge. You like the car. If anyone had ever owned one here, would agree. If you never owned one... not talking about driving one in a parking lot...

I've personally put in serious wheel time in a manual Jet Black/Black '04 e46 M3 with Ground Control COs, uprated brakes, Mason clutch arm upgrade (seriously why would they put a polymer clutch arm in a car like this???), and enjoyed it immensely (almost purchased it off my boss when he sold it - he really put in effort to get me sold on it allowing me several spirited test drives over a couple months).

You are right I didn't own one, but that's because my interest in owning European is minimal when I can own cars that suit my needs much better (with many more grins per mile) in the same price range as your entry level sedan with a blue and white propeller roundel - try again  Actually don't - just give up and move on...

I've owned one, but I owned a real Bmw (e39). The plastic expansion tank exploded and dumped coolant all over the highway. By the time i realized what had happened about 14 seconds later the block was already cracked.

I loved that car. But Bmw hasn't built a car like it since.

Oh and it was ridiculously expensive to keep on the road and shit constantly broke.... and im a mechanic.

I recently traded in my 06 lgt for a 06 bmw 330i and I have ZERO regrets. I wanted something with more luxuries and I decided on the downgraded hp 330i compared to the 335 because of the mechanical issues many 335 drivers deal with. I loved my suby and miss the torque that my lgt had, however when compared to my bmw there is no comparison between the level of luxurious comfort and sporty feel that my 330 gives. I will say that the OP really dropped the ball on this one and is not helping himself from not looking like an arrogant prick, but to say that any 3 series besides a 335 and m3 is a girl car is simply ignorant. Many people buy a 3 series because they seek a luxurious sports sedan not just the badge.

Many women buy a 3 series because they seek a luxurious sedan with pretty colors on the badge.

Fixed.

 at calling the 328 or 330 a "sports sedan". Sporty, and sports, are not the same thing. You have the V6 Mustang of the 3-series lineup.

I'm tired of my LGT not being "sporty" enough; I'm going for a vehicle that has Sport right in its name.

1954 Powell Sport Wagon.

Who needs a blue propeller when you have fishing rod tubes in behind the tail lights?

p.s. - after I get the Powell Sport Wagon, I will start making some pretty nasty accusations. Be prepared to be accused of harbouring jealousy if you're not smitten by its odd looks and vapid handling.

The V6 kinda has potential though.. ish.

I'd relate it more to the I4 FWD version of the 3000GT

Don't even think they made an i4.. it was sohc v6, dohc v6 and twin turbo dohc v6.

Its more like buying a jeep liberty and calling it a good plow truck.

Or a scooter and saying you ride a motorcycle.

One of my (non-enthusiast) friends just got an IS250, and I can tell he thinks his car is WAY better than mine because of the chilled cupholders, navigation screen, wood trim on his steering wheel, and shiny L on the grill that makes him feel like a pro-baller; while all the real ballers are rolling around in Bentlys and Aston Martins. Made me think of this thread.

He let me take it for a test spin, and boy am I glad to be alive! . . . I almost fell asleep at the wheel.

Exactly. I didn't know this thread going to go this way.

What are your guys opinions on why many car magazines choose the 3 series(325, 328, 330, 335) as a bench mark for testing performance?

Show me one performance test, where the vehicle in question is arbitrarily compared to a 328ix.

Lol, that's not a performance test against a 3-series. That's saying they'd rather buy a slower, non-AWD BMW so they could put more options on it. See picture above.
