jasejase
our 05 has the OEM 1.25" hitch, and it actually looks great. You have to look for it to see it. We also use our hitch essentially for bikes and skis. Wife couldnt get the bikes on the roof rack without taking half of the paint with her. nightspeed98
I did. Just got used to the scraping of the hitch coming out of anything but the most-gradual driveways. Plus I had a golf ball screwed into the end of my receiver plug. Lost a bunch of those! Any decorative plug that hung down at all was history on the first hit. crap! gonna have to keep using the santafe then. put my hitch up for sale soon. str8dwn
Strongly recommend NOT going with the current Hidden Hitch/Drawtite (owned by same co) models (square tubes shaped like a "V" or triangle). I ordered one and promptly returned it, and it was clearly going to hang down way below the car. I scored an earlier model that's horseshoe shaped like the OEM. Fits nice and snug and works with my hitch rack. As others suggest, either find an earlier one or go OEM if you can afford it. Otherwise, you will not be happy with results. PS: Avoid ordering from Redtrailers.org. Terrible place to do biz with.

vr4Legacy
PS: Avoid ordering from Redtrailers.org. Terrible place to do biz with. ?? Did you mean redtrailers.com? if so I ordered an 4x8 folder trailer from them a few years back and had nothing but excellent service. The trailer tracks great and has held up wonderful, I've towed much more than the payload using my ex's Jeep with it. They actually put a pic up on their website of a load of lumber for a deck I was building ( http://www.redtrailers.com/gallery/slides/trailer007.asp)... Back on topic -- any pics of the OEM hitch or other aftermarket hitches? I'm considering getting one, also are the hitches cross compatible with a similar model OB? str8dwn
?? Did you mean redtrailers.com? Yep. Four weeks to get a refund for a return (25% restocking fee not posted on their site) and more than 10 phone calls. Seems their staff was a revolving door and no one knew the status. jasejase
Here are some pics of our 05 with the subie oem hitch ... Its really nice, whenever i look at it, i admire how well it fits and looks. my buddy didnt even notice it, i had to point it out! really all you see is the receiver portion (with the subie cap) and the toe strap holes for the chains. whenever i see another hitch on any other car i cringe in comparison! lol Just got the outback brackets in yesterday, so i will add the extra support straps on over the winter months when i have a free moment. vr4Legacy
Thanks for the pics - doesn't look bad, but I think the black paint helps disguise it too. And yea, I've seen some cars with hitches that stick out way past the bumper and hang down, I wonder why they drove it away with it installed lol
jasejase
i know! i agree, i think the black helps hide it, but its still a great fit. the pics dont really do it justice. my crappy cell camera will take the blame. its the best fitting hitch that i have seen on the 05-09's and like i said, if you want to make it 'perfect' , you will need the brackets that come standard on the outbacks. These allow the extra reinforcement straps that come with the hitch to be able to be bolted to something. If you're using the hitch for light duty, i doubt you need 'em, but for $40 or so, its decent insurance.
jasejase
check out page 13, for pics of Scoobies Atlantic Blue Pearl with the oem hitch. decent as well. bottom of page 13, also has a comment about the outback brackets that i was referring to. The part numbers are also in this thread somewhere... i think i posted them actually (IF you are interested in them)
scoobydoobie
I have a few more pics of the OEM hitch that I may as well put up in this thread: A pic of just how close it tucks up to the bumper: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3858/92067689.jpg http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9094/93338676.jpg http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/2329/43924365.jpg ..and I feel like a tool because I still haven't used the hitch for anything (except to scrape it occasionally when backing into spots:redface:). Been to busy/broke to find and buy a nice bike rack for it yet.
jasejase
nonetheless man, nice looking exhaust work! we've only used ours once so far, and that will be it till next year in all likelihood.. unless i use it for skiing..... get the thule hitch mount rack, that accepts the hitch mount ski/snowboard holder. REALLY nice.
dcris
I just bought a cargo carrier to fit my "Hidden Hitch" w/2" receiver. This particular version I bought from Cabelas in the ATV section. It's slightly smaller than the standard ones, but it has a bit of a lift to it as opposed to coming straight out of the receiver, level with the exhausts. Thought I'd post this in case anyone was considering one. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4084/5037898116_e1fa81806c_z.jpg Lehigh Valley Subaru Enthusiasts http://alturl.com/o4org Because Station Wagon
TRS
I use an ATV cargo carrier too. It's the Tow Ready Hitch Cargo Carrier #TR65855 and it provides a nice 5 " lift. Got it from etrailer.com. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSS7vCg7WkG6MsxW0hOzGIu3aVz4js4OR13Up7c73yneKA96ZM&t=1&usg=__lcL4q7cuSPZlI0-Nk4tPbEi69GU=http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSxghiIFCVAjvkvM3hS84rBJ0fCNQc7wFOcs-XWdIr2ChJrv3Y&t=1&usg=__pyDgjVcTbXDMSrc7YdGFG7KpC14=
Zebe
For those with OEM or Curt hitches, what is your hitch height? This would be the height measured from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. I have not purchased my hitch yet, and want to make sure I get the correct rise/drop for the bar mount. I am at stock height, so if you are not please include details on your ride height. Thanks.

tocinoman25
Subaru part #L101SAG100 Is this the oem hitch that will fit my 08 gt? where and how much should i expect to pay? thanks Follow me on IG @chefodiycarguy and @chefo.soriano
dseg
Believe it or not, I still have the OEM round hitch for 05 LGT sedans kicking around. See post #74 (and #79) in this thread. Don't have the hardware anymore, but some grade 8 bolts and washers from Lowes is all you'd need. (See post #134). No spacers at the frame are required. I could never bring myself to throw it out, since they don't make them anymore, and were the best looking hitches for the LGT SEDAN, evar. Free to a good home, you pay shipping. I'm in Ontario, shipping is somewhere around $100 bucks or so to the US, if interested. Last call on this, I got a trailer full of junk scheduled to go out next week, and I'm tired of banging my ankles on it in the garage. Send me a PM (I'll get an email). I won't be checking the thread.
GTurabus
Subaru part #L101SAG100 Is this the oem hitch that will fit my 08 gt? where and how much should i expect to pay? thanks I installed this on my 08 spec B. No different than the one I put on my previous 05 LGT, which I posted pictures of installed, years ago. I installed the "Trailer Hitch - 2007 Subaru Outback [L101SAG100]" on my '05 sedan and it fits fine. Got it for $252 shipped from subarupartsoutlet.com. ckonegr
Does anyone know the difference between the L101SAG000 and L101SAG100 hitch? I have a 2008 Legacy GT. I know the price difference is about $35 and the 000 model appears to be for older Outbacks. Will they both work on a 2008 Legacy? Thanks.

L101SAG100: 200lb tongue rating, 2700lb tow rating. I have the L101SAG100 on my '05 LGT sedan. I don't do any towing with it just as a mount for a bike rack and a cargo tray. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/TRS60586/Misc%20Legacy/DSCN03092.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/TRS60586/Misc%20Legacy/DSCN03052.jpg When I bought it, it was only listed as for the Outback and some sites still only show it for the Outback.
