  1. Just wanted to pop in and say thanks!. I used an S hook I had laying around for my 2011 Outback. It was roughly the same size as the old clip. If I can get another 8 years out of it I'm good. If it breaks sooner, I'll beef it up. For free, and the 2 minutes it takes to remove and replace the seat back, I'll give it a whirl.
  2. definitely ingenious and something I haven't seen. Would be a great plus if you did some serious offroading and came across a stranded Jeep. Not sure about day to day necessity, but then again if we only did what was necessary, we'd all be driving 3 cyl cars around
  3. ^ so you could, for free, tune his car, drive it around and tweak whatever parameters you like, as often as you like using a GM ECM?? I think that's what he's getting at.
  4. Here ya go http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/MTPS/PIT-STOP-OIL-GLOVE-6PK/ for the price, I'll get oily ... group buy??
  5. I looked at the pic at first and thought "WOW that's a big ole filter under there" then I laughed. I lapsed for a sec and forgot that aint no 2.5 And are you sure you should be towing with that thing... can it really handle the loads
  6. ^ as for adding turbo, I considered it with my 2.5RS Impreza, and everything I read and was told, was basically to sell the NA and buy a WRX. For the cost and reliability of adding a turbo to a NA engine, it wasn't worth it. Or do an engine swap to a turbo 2.5. I'm guessing that will be the general consensus here.
  7. Methinks he was being a weee bit sarcastic. Damn the interwebz!! Sometimes that stuff just doesn't come through
  8. This is why I was sure to put "Very strict oil/filter" maintenence. If I understand correctly, you are very diligent on maintaining your filter. Anyway... I think we've agreed to disagree on this one already
  9. I think they are screwing you a little. Removing the filter will void the warranty, you are removing an "integral" part of the engine, integral in Subaru's eyes at least. I don't think they diagnosed the problem the first time, but just fixed the symptoms. If you are dealing with a Subaru dealer (as it seems you are) I would push a little harder and contact your local SOA rep. Either they should refund the cost of the first repair, as it obviously wasn't done correctly, or they should repair it this time for free.
  10. I read a couple threads on this damn Banjo bolt filter. I havent' found enough difinitive answers to prove to me that it's worth removing. It seems to me that everyone who has good turbo longevity has it because the maintain strict oil/filter change intervals. I am at 80k and haven't touched the damn thing, but I have used OEM filters and changed my oil at least every 4k, usually closer to 3k. Most that have removed it claim the removal has kept their turbo running, but they have also been diligent about their OCIs. It seems the common factor in turbo longevity is maintenence, not the filter. Poor maintenece will lead to poor oil quality which will cause the filter to clog, take out the filter, the particles could harm the turbo. This is simply my conclusion I have drawn, take it with a grain of salt. Others will argue the banjo bolt is the single problem.
  11. Post #678 in this thread has a member with an '08 that confirmed they are in the lines with the new(er) turbo. I doubt they were removed with the rest of the 4th Gen (07-09)
  12. ^ there is nothing to understand from this discussion. I THINK it is only in 4th Gen GT. There are 3 points of view here. 1.) The filter is a stupid design and does nothing but cause damage. REMOVE IT ASAP 2.) The filter is good and prevents further damage in case of turbo failure. KEEP IT and perform strict OCI 3.) The filter is a moot point, the true root of turbo failure is in the maintenence. If you keep strict OCI, you will be fine, filter or not. And there are arguments for and against all 3 arguments. Some have 125k+ keeping strict OCI with the filter, no problems. Others removed it at 20k, are at 100k+, no problems. Others don't give a shi!t about published reports and claim to change oil at REDICULOUS intervals and have no problems. I for one keep my OCI between 3k and 4k and hope for the best. I have no intentions of digging the damn filter out.
  13. Very good argument on the insurance part Merc6. If you were injured from a side impact and an adjuster with a little knowledge realized you didn't have OEM seats... they'd probably drop the entire claim and you'd be screwed.... I would be leary of playing around with resistors and the airbag system... but it just wouldn't make sense to me to disable the entire system if one component was missing. What if you had an object on your back floorboard and slammed on your brakes, causing it to roll into your wires and disconnect your seat airbag then you rearend the car in front of you.... sure would suck if that disabled your ENTIRE system... Anyway... its probably best to get the right seats as far as insurance is concerned.
  14. Was side airbags a heavy decision on your car choice? I understand the desire to want functioning front airbags, but if you had bought the car a few years older it wouldn't have come equipped with the side airbags anyway. If you truly require side airbags, so be it, figure out a fix or offer up a trade, lots of people on here would probably be willing to put STI seats in their LGT. Just wanted to offer up a different perspective. I know side airbags aren't high on my list when looking into my needs for a performance car.
  15. This is still utterly amazing to me. I think you should submit your story to a buick GS magazine (I'm sure one exists) this is stuff enthusiasts on both sides eat up.
