Everything you wanted to know about a hitch install...

The holes were off by at least a half inch, and there was no way of getting them to line up; my friend and I tried. We were down there pulling and pushing and tried to put the bolt in at an angle.

All of the pics show the defect. The first one shows the driver side which is flat, and the second two show the angle of the flange on the passenger side. The next two show the straight driver side arm and the curved passenger side one, and the next two show the driver side flange being level and the passenger side one being angled so much the level bottoms out. The final three show how much the hitch has to be tilted in order to make the passenger side flange level (how much the hitch would have to be bent for it to meet up flush with the frame rail, or in other words how much the flange is actually angled).

Hard to tell for sure in those pictures, and I'm assuming that driveway is flat, but it looks like the two flanges are both flat on the blacktop. If I did that with mine the passenger side one would not sit flat. In fact, I should get a picture of it like that as well. Thanks for the input.

I still love mine. It's super clean, and has been hauling my family bikes around for years. Do it :)

Bump

Seems like OEM is the best with being tucked up underneath the bumper

Older round tube Hidden Hitch is okay

And newer square Hidden Hitch is bad because it hangs down alot and looks ugly

any guidance?

so before i pull the trigger, is this the correct OEM one? the one that is most "tucked" in to the bumper?

Twins!!

Also, if anyone has advice on how to prevent rear-end sag during the summer months I'd appreciate it :) I think I ate through a set of summer tires due to all the weight on the back when we go camping.

I posted a few years back in this thread, as well as creating my own, about a hitch ordered from subarupartsforyou (SPFY) for my Legacy. I just realized that I never followed up, and I just wanted to warn people to stay far away from that company.

Details would be appreciated. :)

EDIT-OK, went to your linked post. You got a defective hitch and they did not satisfy you on it. Complicated by the fact that you ordered an Outback hitch for your Legacy, knowing the fitment was the same. You went to Subaru dealer and got the same hitch and it fit perfect. Got it.
