i believe hidden hitch makes a hitch for the LGT sedans, in the manual it states subaru only makes a hitch for LGT and outback wagons

If memory serves correctly, correct me if I am wrong, that Hidden Hitch USED to make one for the sedan and the new one , officially, only fits the wagons.

It should fit both just fine. When I bought mine 3 years ago, it was only listed for the sedan and fit my wagon just fine.

Legacy or Outback, sedan or wagon, they should all fit fine.

good to know. Gotta get one of these for my boat... I can use a neighbors truck to launch at the ramp. I have a v8 truck but way nicer for a 6 hour drive to upstate NY to take the LGT than the truck. Nicer on the wallet too. If i can tow it with my ATV then why not my LGT

Nice, looks like mine, except I've got the round tubing. See here:

Both the hitch and mufflers are for sale, if anyone wants 'em. Make an offer.

Others will differ, but I wouldn't recommend the Hidden Hitch. For one thing, the current model (90138 I think) only mounts below the tow hook. The discontinued model (90756) is supposed to mount above the tow hook but I had a hard time with it. I had to enlarge the holes to make it work, and even then I'm not thrilled with the installation because the mounting pads meet the car's frame at an angle. It will be fine for my uses but I am not impressed at all.

I realize it's more expensive, but I would go with the Subaru hitch and get the brackets that are on the Outback to install the hitch properly. If you want to tow (as opposed to just mount a bike rack or something) I guess you'll also need a drawbar with more rise. But I think the cleaner look that you get with the hitch mounted higher is worth it, and I suspect that there is less chance of fit issues since the tow hook is not involved with the Subaru hitch (as I understand it).

Bumping this clearance issue.

I've just spent the morning installling the class III Hidden Hitch and I can't get it to go above the tow hook either. The instructions seem to reflect this as well. If anyone has managed to get the class III hitch above the tow hook please let me know and let me know how!

See pic below. The metal lip overlays the pan by a good 1/4". Although the lip has a slot cut for the bolt hole, there doesn't seen to be enough play with the bolts above the mufflers to allow the hitch to slide further back. I'm tempted to take a grinder to it but the lip seems to be bearing the bulk of the stress of any tow, so I'm not so sure it would be a bright idea.

Does the Hidden Hitch wiring harness simply plug in, or is there splicing involved. If there is splicing, are there any aftermarket hitches that do plug in like the factory hitch?

For the sedans, at least in 05, there was no plug. You have to splice. In my case I spliced into the rear tail lamp. I provided pinouts earlier in this thread.

hmm I dunno to go with hiddenhitch or subaru hitch. my dad just grabbed my grandfather's little flatbed trailer so now if i get a hitch i dont need to borrow the truck to take the dirtbikes & atvs around & maybe the boat....

havent gotten one but i think im going to go class I (smaller recepticle) when I get one dont know what brand. Going to NY with my boat on friday so I wont have it in time & will just be driving up the pickup truck up there. we recently got my grandfathers flatbed trailer which i can take atvs/dirtbikes/motorcycles on so the incentive to get a hitch is gooing to be in the near future... now that im done with school
