What year STI 6spd?

'04. Im following recipe A here

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/6mt-master-swap-thread-107137.html

Biggest suck so far is sourcing Spec B rear axles. OEM is 320/pc at the cheapest Ive found online. Plan to visit the dealer Monday and see what their prices are on a lot of stuff. My build sheet and estimates are based on Heurbergers prices and mostly new stuff. Trying to get a cross member, pedals and that kind of non-wearable stuff used.

How do you like the perrin steering damper?

There is a 06 STI spd with diff for $1,800 for sale local to me. I think the gears are a little longer in the later years. But, the 06 might have the built in pump which is better for cooling. Anyone know why the 6+ STi transmission (recipe B) uses a 07-09 SpecB R180? Is it because the rear axles don't mate to an 06+ STI diff?

hmmm

The damper certainly improves the steering input delay. Not life changing though. I only went for a short drive, maybe 5 miles and didn't notice any added nvh.

I would say it's worth the price of admission. Very easy to install.

Its the FD gearing, the 07-09 spec B 6 speeds only came in 3.54 FD, the STI's came in 3.9 and then 3.54 for the GD chassis.

Your gearing will indeed be longer, keep in mind your OBXT is already calibrated for taller tires, which also add to the gearing.

For example, same 05 STI 6 speed in top gear, on 225/45/17 would be 70mph @ 3000RPM, on 225/55/17 would be 80mph @3000rpm. For most of my driving, I'm more likely in 5th gear for cruising, barely touch 6th due to risk of lugging the engine.

Best advice for anyone doing the swap is to try and get as much of the small bits attached to the transmission as possible (linkages, clutch slave cylinder, DCCD controls, trans mount w/ corresponding brackets, etc.), having done the 6 speed swap twice already, the little bits will nickel and dime your budget to hell.

When I did my SpecB 6MT swap I was lucky enough to have the donor car brought to the shop so that it could be directly swapped over and they could get all of those small bits. Even better they kept my 5MT driveline and only charged me $400 for the labor.

So what do you guys do when you are done spending money on your car but still want to enjoy it? Don't say drive cause I do that every day. And admit it, half the fun is messing with it.

When I am done spending money on it? I don't understand.

But seriously, the fun for me is building it and enjoying the changes. If I did track days / autocross that would be the fun.

I had to dry out the awning today and I thought you guys might like a better pic of it. It sets up in about 3 minutes.

It looks a little like I'm carrying some lumber up there right now but plan on putting on my white Yakima box this week so it won't look so out of place.

As you can see the mounting points are completely adjustable although on this size you aren't supposed to have in excess of 30cm/11.8" overhang. If you have a roof box it would be easy to attach to the side of the basket in multiple spots. The brackets that I used on my Whispbars are available here:

Was hammer down getting back to the valley from SJC last night. Had an interesting P1544 CEL. Interesting since the EGT should have been removed from my map and the EGT in the unit is modified to just look like it's installed.

I'm going to mention this to my tuner when sending my next logs and inspect if I now have a issue with the modded EGT.

Thanks for the pictures. It actually looks pretty small when it is all packed up. Did you notice any 'flapping' or excessive wind noise while driving?

None at all! I was surprised that by itself on the rack I could hardly hear a difference.
