out of curiosity, what does it cost someone to put a v8 in a Miata? Roughly?

What I mean is... someone drops off a Miata and says "put a v8 in this please". Of course the cost of the motor can vary based on what you use and where you get it. I only ask because its not like this is something most shops have a familiarity with.

The current cost for this Miata is around $4200. Keep in mind there is no labor cost in there and we fabricated almost all of the custom parts.

If you were to drop off the car at Flying Miata and have it built with similar parts and include everything that we have (Getrag LSD, Moser Axles, AC, PS, etc.) it would cost around $18-20k or $24-25k with a bigger motor

A basic BossFrog conversion kit is $4250. This includes subframe, transmission mount, diff mount, axles, driveshaft, clutch master, headers, and rack mount. You would still have to add engine, transmission, diff, electronics, fuel system, etc on top of this cost plus labor

I am currently Building a LS1/t-56 91' Miata and I will be around 10k in parts alone and I found my LS1/tranny from a rear ended Vette ($3500). However I am doing the V8 Roadster conversion which is a little more work/pricey than Boss Frog but I chose this kit since it sits close to the firewall and does not stick down as low as the boss frog kit.e I think once I am done I will be around 12-14k but this is including bigger brakes, suspension, ect.

Your car looks great BTW, good luck with your build!

^ ouch expensive !

i think i could make subaru turbo v6 conversion kits including headders trans adapter plate and accessorys mounting plate for about 2 K

Now that's thinking out of the boxer!

Wiring looks fine, now back to work on the legacy:lol:

Soon Soon. We got the new subframe pieces tacked up last night and started on the jig for the steering rack. Hopefully that will be done by this weekend and we can drop the engine and trans in the car to make the transmission mounts

That is going to be a fun ride. We worked on this in pieces and did a lot of non conventional stuff including using the CTS-V which no one wants due to shifter placement and the guibo so our engine including cam, upgraded heads, hd chain and gear, and all new gaskets for the miata was around $850 and the transmission was $1300

The rear end was $220 and the custom axles $245 and we pulled alot of the stuff ourselves at local junkyards.

Now that's a nice priced kit. I may have to buy a Legacy shell to go with the Bonneville 3.8L that I have sitting in the shop then

We are also building another Miata that is going to be 1.8L Turbo and we have a FD RX7 transmission that we were looking into using. Would you be able to make an adapter plate for us and how much would that run?

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. I have been moving into a new shop so a lot of tools and parts have been packaged up.

We did manage to make a lot of progress on the subframe and steering rack mounts. Below you will see a picture of the rack mounted in the subframe with the steering rack moutn and brace seeting upside down on the mockup motor.

You will also see the steering rack mount complete and painted and the subframe about 90% complete. We still have to add a few reinforcement pieces to the subframe this week and then it will be painted and in the car.
