btlegacy
I have been working on a few V8 build recently and have decided not to rebuild my legacy back to the 2.5L Turbo but to swap it out for a 6.0L V8. We are building everything ourselves and are working on a V8 Miata at the same time. The engine is going to be an Iron LS2 or LQ4 which will have headwork and cam done to produce around 450 rwhp. The transmission will be a T56 6-Speed. The car will be RWD due to space constraints and will fit what I need it to do. I am going to run the GM ECU and interface it to the Legacy cluster. The front accessories are from a C6 LS3 Corvette to save space. If you want to see quicker progress buy my stuff haha ) Here are the specs on what I have so far: 2003 LQ4 6.0L Short block with dished pistons 2006 GTO Front Sump Oil Pan and Pickup 2010 Corvette Water Pump and Harmonic Balancer The head will most likely be 243/799 LS2 heads but I may go to LS3 head depending on what kind of deals i find. Once the heads are bought I can decide what direction to go in as far as a cam The heads will be milled in any case and the goal is to run around 11:1 compression and stay on 93 octane The T56 will most likely be the CTS-V unit since it has a shifter setup similar to the Legacy and is improved over the F-Body units This will send power through an LS7 Corvette clutch 2005 Legacy GT 5MT Buy my stuff Here So I can build my 6.0L V8 Legacy GT Here

btlegacy
Here is a picture of the first quick mockup we did once the mockup engine arrived. We are going to modify and reinforce the subframe to move the engine back another 3 inches and we are also going to use outback pieces in order to drop the subframe an inch lower http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/3001/imag0803r.jpg 2005 Legacy GT 5MT Buy my stuff Here So I can build my 6.0L V8 Legacy GT Here

btlegacy
Here are few more pics we took when we were doing the initial quick mockup. This is without squaring off and center the engine and before the subframe modification and Outback subframe drop. Once all those modification are completed and the hood is swapped for a scoopless one we hope to be able to make everything clear under there http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/9116/frontdtb.jpg http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/1985/rearj.jpg http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/8159/rear2.jpg http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/69/sidelc.jpg 2005 Legacy GT 5MT Buy my stuff Here So I can build my 6.0L V8 Legacy GT Here

Ostrowrx
Curious, What do you expect a build like this to cost, and how long do you need to get it done?

btlegacy
The build is being done when we have free time from other work so I work on it around 5-10 hours a week and I expect a total of 200 hours to get it done. The motor, harness, and ecu are going to end up being Free after I part out and scrap the vehicle they came in. The CTS-V T56 is around $1300 We are doing all of the fabrication so that is free to us The heads, cams, etc will be around $800-900 Accessories around $200-300 There are many other item so the total rough budget was around $4000-4500 when all is said and done 2005 Legacy GT 5MT Buy my stuff Here So I can build my 6.0L V8 Legacy GT Here

BAC5.2
This won't be the first V8 LGT, but it might be the best documented. Don't deny us pics! BAC5.2
I have a ton of pics of a WRX swap. And a few of the LGT swap (an LS1, I think). The LGT swap made it look like the motor mounts sit nearly on the flats of the stock crossmember. I've seriously considered the swap in my OB. 200 man hours sounds about right. I could neither afford the time or money to do it. I'd love to, one day, though. Maybe not an LS. I had the idea of using the 60 degree 3.4L V8 out of a 96-99 Taurus SHO (with welded cams and a set of forged pistons) with a pair of GT28RS turbos. You could keep AWD with that setup. If you want the WRX pics, I'll see about uploading them to Photobucket.
