While I was able to care for the interior, motor, trans, etc, not much I could do to protect the body from others. Car was involved in a couple fender benders (<20mph) Damage was cosmetic and professionally repaired Hood paint has not held up that well (see pics) Very tiny dent on roof was there when I purchased. I don't think a single friend ever noticed it. Small dent on trunk lid with unmatched paint. Who stands a bench on its side at the end of the driveway so all you can see is 2" of it! Rock chips on front end. Some marks on bumpers from terrible parkers. Radio lights come on and off. Usually ok once car warms up. Common issue. Recommend replacing. I did my best but it was subject to street parking for part of its life
  4. My break line failed today at the fitting that was recalled. Unfortunately, I never heard of the recall and never addressed it. "Coincidentally" the brake lines failed within blocks of leaving my inspection, which the car passed. (PA inspection is such a racket..a whole other topic). Right now the car is going to be towed to Cherry Hill Subaru. Will see what they have to say. Seems like getting the dealership to take care of this could be hit or miss. Any advice on how to convince the dealership to honor the recall and fix the lines greatly appreciated!
  5. I installed Exedy Stage 1 (#15804) in September. I have about 5-6,000 miles on it. I was not a fan for the first few weeks. The pedal was extremely stiff and resulted in a sore foot. After about 1,000 miles it started to break in and I was used to it. I like it now and would use it again. It's still on the stiff side but the pedal feel and feedback is good. I have not pushed it hard so I can't speak much to how it holds up yet.
  6. Interesting. So I shouldn't have just thrown these in the kitchen trash can?! Well I wasn't there but they were handled by a seasoned Subaru mechanic who told me he has seen this before. Well not literally since he is blind. Hmm, I wonder if that's related. (too much sarcasm for one post)
  7. Was told it cracked, sodium leaked out, and it collapsed. I'll see if I can get a pic.
  8. My summary: Had 0301 CEL. Swapping plugs, injectors did nothing. Compression test was 85 in cylinder #1, 155 in all others. Purchased EJ257 short block and accompanying parts. Pulled motor and found collapsed valve. I bought parts locally so I could return if this happened. Moral: Don't skip the leak down test!
  9. You may have cut too much! The ridges slid into the housing at least a few milimeters for me. You might have to come up with some other method to shim the strut so it doesnt move around in the housing.
  10. Hey Sleeper, let me know what path you go. I am in a similar boat as you. Looking to replace mine this summer and only looking for stock feel. Maybe we can get a group install deal since we are both in Philly!
  11. I am on Koni and rallitek as well. What your reason for Whiteline top hats? Let me know if they make any difference for you.
  12. When you don't have a spring compressor but you do have a backhoe.... http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk194/wfriel/springcompressor.jpg It worked perfectly!
  13. Yes OEM top mounts. Conical washer is in, small diameter side up. I dont notice any clunking so maybe I am ok. When I try to tighten any more, the top mount and spring want to turn with it. I ride on some twisty, bumpy roads to work. The ride to work this morning felt like all the streets were repaved! Loving the Konis so far.
  14. I have the kobalt set. Didn't realize I could get my 1/4" 9mm thru it until I tried today. Couldn't get the nut any tighter. Maybe its tight enough but I only see about 3 threads.
  15. I'm not sure what pass through would let me still get to the inside nut. Maybe a box wrench with a severe angle. Think I'm going to stop over a friends and hit it with an impact. It's on there enough to get everything in place but clunks over bumps.
  16. Installed my Konis this weekend and can't get the nut on top of the front strut torqued down all the way without the strut spinning. I thought it wasn't supposed to spin with the weight of the car on it. What's my solution? I have a pass through wrench but it doesn't leave enough room in the center to get on the Koni smaller 6 point.
  17. Bridgestone RE01R 235/40/18 on 18x8 tarmac 3 Bought these tires when tirerack was closing them out and paid $490 shipped. Cant beat it for the money. Put them on this weekend and put about 200 miles on them. They handle amazing. I progressivelly pushed them through some corners and they just kept staying put. Finally got them to slide and it was freaking scary! No warning chirp and didnt slide like normal tires would. Sort of jumped and then grabbed the road again. I didnt expect these to be quiet by any means, but they are much louder than I expected and I now feel every bump and crack in the road. Feels like I went from driving a nice plush car to something with an old worn out suspension. But then I hit a corner and they remind me its worth the extra noise. Sidewalls are extrememly stiff. Running 37/35 psi and noticed no flex. I guess this review is worthless since theyre discontinued but thought I'd share.
  18. How? I am ordering new wheels next week and this has me thinking. Its quite a bit to pay to get rid of a light tho. I'm used to checking my pressure on my own so I wont miss having the warning...Its just that damn annoying light!
  19. spotted an APB with rims (maybe enkei) on 30 something street in sea isle city, nj on saturday night. looked nice!
