I dont, its cold! I actually have some repairs to do when I get home and am not looking forward to the cold temperatures at all.

i understand...but HK is only starting to get cold this week - predicting 15 or lower during the middle of this week. the whole of november averaged (in my point of view) around 21 degrees celsius when it's supposed to be averaging 17 degrees C.

hot christmas? i'm in Hong kong, now aussieland at the moment.

Back to the shop! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee hopefully I'll have the engine out of the car today

can't wait to see it in the 96' LGT!

Edit: Does this motor come in any other model of subaru?

December 21, 2007: Heart Surgery

Well today I was finally able to free the baby beast. She was stubborn and didnt want to come out of her old home, so with the help of the Sawzall and the Blow Torch we were able to wiggle her free. It was pretty funny to see the red power steering fluid flowing out of the reservoir when we removed it, like she was bleeding all over the place....

On to the pics!

First attempt to cut the Drive axle with the sawzall, which didnt end well for the blade....

So when the sawzall doesnt work, who do you call???????? The torch http://images.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gifhttp://images.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gifhttp://images.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gifhttp://images.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gif

Note the Speedidry on the floor, this was to soak up the combination of power steering fluid and gas mix. So being the responsible one that I am I opted to hold the Fire extinguisher while I kindly let my father do the torching

Note the glow on the rim and tire.... Yeah we kinda melted the tire a bit . Best parts were the ....

"Um the brake line is on fire....."

*bats it out with a rag*.......... "um its on fire again..."....

"Um the transmission is on fire....." "Well dont just stand there its raining flaming trans fluid!".....

Yeah we had fun:cool:

So finally after cutting the Drive axles and the DP, we were able to free the baby beast....

I give you the EJ22T in all its glory. Please dont laugh at her tiny turbo, she's a little self conscious of it....

I think those wheels are from a younger Impreza.

It was pretty funny how dirty this engine is. There are sunflower seeds under the manifold from some mouse making a home, and some how there was a birds wing, feathers and all wedged in the turbo.... yeah its a killer, I really wish I had gotten a pic of it before it was removed, it was great

Yar, just got back from skiing. I'm trying to figure out what direction I want to go first. I'm going to keep the Donor engine in one piece till I send it to Vermont Engine, just to keep rust out of the heads, etc. (even though I want to tear it apart right now). This leaves me with the dilemma, do I buy all the parts for the engine first, or do I completely strip the shell further, buy the replacement bumper, fenders, hood and corresponding parts, get the front fixed, completely strip everything off the shell and then seam weld everything. After which I'd buy the suspension pieces and fab the drivetrain, before doing the engine work.

I think I'm going to go with the latter option, so I dont have a built engine just sitting around. So I have to either track down my old body repair man, whom is unbelievably good, who just moved (hopefully within state), or I have to get everything prepped to take it to Ultimate CC down in NY

looks good.. so where is the intercooler? behind the grill?
 No intercooler on the old skool EJ22T. These cars just had a chimney vent to the hood scoop to cool the exterior of the turbo. Many people who mod the Old Turbo Legacys add Saab Turbo TMICs to deal with higher levels of boost (stock they were about 7-8psi)

Last week I took the '91 to the Junkyard, it was a sad day....

... and then they cut me a check for $177.90 with no wheels and tires, or engine and I wasnt so sad after that

Wheels and tires are now on my '96 and I'm gonna take it off the jackstands this weekend (if its warm enough in the garage) and take the dash out, so I can plan how I'm going to mount some special things (and remove the AC)
