Aczwild's '96 Legacy GT Project Car...

Very interesting project here. I wish I'd known about it sooner, I had a BK wagon sitting in my back yard for 2 years before I sold it to a friend for $300. Probably too rusty for what you wanted, and you did specify wanting the GT trim.

What's the status?

You made my day, first all i'm best friends(Terry Hall, traded it into junction subaru for a RS) with the owner before you of the 91 turbo legacy. First turbo subaru I ever drove! OMG did we have fun with that car, i remember countless times of 130mph+, snow drifting, massive beating of that car. We drove the living hell out of that car, the motor never showed a sign of weakness. When the car is drive-able I'd love to meet up with you and ride in it! If you ever decide to sell that motor let me know! butlerheath@yahoo.com

A little late for the party here but I have a 94 Legacy wagon just waiting to be turned into a project car (a nice florida car at that) . WRX seats in it. still runs but needs a little work and some TLC. First $ 200 takes it (people in Fla don't appreciate subies and don't look at it)

Yeah, they are too low to the ground for mud bogs and they rarely get snowed on down there. Not a whole lot of demand for AWD passenger cars in Florida.

Its warm enough that AczWild new garage building should be completed soon so he can continue work on his car and we should be hearing from him and this project soon. :)

Boy this is depressing. All the work I have to do needs to be done on a lift at the present moment and we were planning on having our new garage completed by this point, however we had to pause construction till spring (bad weather & conditions). So right now the car is sitting in storage ready to have the drivetrain put in. So for now there are no real updates on the car. I'll grab some pics of it when I'm into where its stowed away.

Some know though that the car has a sister project now, this....

She's a 1966 Mustang Coupe with a 1968 302 V8, 4-spd manual (rare & desirable) 5 lug bolt pattern (rare) full and complete interior and she runs an drives.

With that said, I am still looking for a rust free 96-99 GT Wagon in white with a manual trans with no damage as I really want this project to end with a wagon

You should have lots of fun with that. I currently have my father in laws 66 fast back all orignal owner (father in law) sitting in my car port... Looks nice after rebuild.

My *guess* is that when Aczwild next posts anything in this thread it will be something along the lines of "Sorry guys, while going to school I met this wonderful young lady, we got married and here are some photos of my first born son".

Haha I wouldnt forget you guys. Friggin here in Taiwan right now so I havent had much time to pay attention to the forums.

Boy I forgot about this thread, here's a little update. Structurally the car is back together, right now all it needs is a little finish welding in the engine bay before I can drop the 22T in. Problem is I currently have no garage to do said welding in (in the pic is the foundation of the barn being built). I am a little concerned about the structure of the car in the front and if it can handle the large amount of power I am intending for on the engine and also the high concentration stresses produced on dives and the torsional stresses occurring in highspeed track racing, so the plan has been tweaked a bit. I will be using this body for mockup, wiring etc. Whereby I wont upgrade the engine for this car, this will only be a rolling proof of concept with a 5spd WRX trans. so I can get all the small kinks worked out in the swap before I plant it in her final home....

Think a white BG.... ;)

Oh and the other reason this hasn't moved faster, the damn modding on my Spec has taken way too much of my time and $$

.... it was and I miss it everyday. That was a fun car. Any way I have a ton of parts sitting around and they need to go on the car. I think the first thing I will be doing is finishing the welding and reinforcement of the repaired front and then painting the engine bay.

Hey, why is the 1991 Legacy so good for a project? I wonder because I have a nice 1990 2.0 GT one.

Cheers

In America Subaru was very reluctant to import "high performance" model Subarus. The Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan was one of the very few performance cars sold by Subaru back in the early 1990ies in America.. This car used the near bullet proof "closed deck" EJ22T (2.2 Litre Turbo-charged) motor, that while not overly powerful in stock form, was certainly way over built and capable of being tuned for additional boost. These motors are becoming increasingly rare and are very hard to find.

Oh I see, the 2.2 turbocharged versions are quite rare in New Zealand too, but there are still heaps of old 2.0 turbo versions around. I got mine for 1400 NZD, put new HG, new cam belt etc. and she runs great. At some stage I'll put a bigger turbo on it as well. The car quite robust and pretty rough too drive too. I like her pretty much.
