ebo03
so those buttons are for the seat heater. is your button on the center console going to work anymore? or are you going to have to have the recaro button set to on for anything to happen (that would be my guess) I'll disconnect the driver side center console button. The Recaro heater has only two wires to connect--power (with an inline fuse) and ground. The switch on the seat itself will operate the heater. Just like OEM it looks like the Recaro heater has high and low settings. The Recaro airbag harnesses are VW/Audi parts. The Subaru airbag harness is retained. You cut the OEM wires between the Subaru harness and the seat then connect the male end of the VW harness. All in all the wiring looks rather simple. Just a matter of determining where to tap into power for the heater and finding a good ground. For the airbag I just need to determine which wires are what for both ends. I've never really done much with wiring but I might attempt to tackle this one myself. I'll talk to my mechanic friend and see what he thinks. ebo03
Stumbled across this thread on IWSTI.com. It contains a lot of info on the wiring. http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-interior/284089-aftermarket-seat-side-airbag-recaro-installation-notes.html

cww516
If it was me, I'd splice in some blade terminals where you're cutting the factory wiring so you can drop the factory seat back in. Also, having just recently discovered how easy it is to butt splice wires, I'd definitely do that rather than soldering them.
GTEASER
Delphi WeatherPack connectors. I use them a lot. I'll take the wiring out of it and leave my factory seat unmolested.

ebo03
Airbag harness is good to go. Fuse wired in for Recaro heat element. Sliders, bracket, and spacers should arrive tomorrow. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/09/253925e1710532f04d7c36a23a40667e.jpg
ebo03
Package showed up with no sliders! That throws a wrench in my weekend plans.[emoji35]
ebo03
Looks like a set of sliders will be here 12/21. Maybe I can install it over Christmas weekend.
ebo03
Seat, sliders, spacers, and bracket are all assembled and ready to drop in the car. If I have a little free time today or tomorrow I might try to snake the wiring for the heat element under the carpet from the seat to the 12v outlet in the center console. That will make the install as plug and play as possible whenever I get down to it.

I can't wait to see this installed, the factory seats are great for cruisin but holy hell is it rough trying to get around an autocross course in them

ebo03
No updates to speak of. Too busy and out of town for most of the holidays. I do plan on installing the seat this weekend. Look for pics at some point on Saturday.

But when you're a lifelong Detroit Lions fan you are rarely consumed with football in January.
ebo03
Made some progress tonight. Stock seat is removed and heater wiring is snaked through the carpet and ready to tap into the console outlet. I need a bolt to mount the seat belt bracket to the Planted base. Little did I know, until removing the stock seat, that the bolt is part of the frame. So in the morning I'll run to the hardware store...literally. Hmmm something is missing. What could it be? I'm still not sure. Ahhhh yes that must be it. Great opportunity to vacuum up hard to reach debris. Pop the shifter trim and disconnect seat heaters. Steel wire to snake Recaro heater wire through the carpet. Another view. Tape it up and give it a pull. Luckily it's a short distance. Wiring ready to tap into outlet now. Sleep well my friend. You'll be in your new home tomorrow.
ebo03
Haha just noticed in the 4th pic it looks like Darryl from Soul Glo has been driving my car while I was gone for the holidays.
ebo03
Here goes nothing. No airbag lights. Heater on low. Heater on high. Used Posi-taps for heater wiring. Another view. Goodbye plastic wrap. Inferior passenger seat. Rear view. Used my new 3/8 Gearwrench torque wrench for the mounting bolts. With 15° flex head. 5-75 ft/lbs. Not thrilled about losing the plastic mounting covers. I'll have to see if I can come up with something to provide a little cover on the four mounting points. ebo03
No I did not. Overall these fit me great. I've only sat in one other Recaro seat. Ford Focus ST stock Recaros, which I found to be too tight in the upper back/shoulders. Back area is spot on for me in the Sportster CS. I'd be ok if the Sportster CS was a touch wider in the bottom bolstering but not enough to worry about. It seems like the Sportster CS sits right about the same height as OEM passenger seat. Just for reference, I'm about 6' tall, 215 lbs and enjoy the gym. Buying pants and shorts that fit in the legs and butt is nearly impossible for my size 34 waist.
