The Kid's 2005 LGT Wagon Build

Have you put your interior together fully and taken pictures? I'm interested to see what you've done.

It's fully installed, I have a few finishing touches that I need to work on over winter break but nothing visually looks unfinished. Just need to find the time to detail it and make it look nice for some photos. But I'm stoked on how it turned out! I'm swapping in a new head unit into my double din piece over break so I'll detail it then and snap some photos.

Update on the build: I received my intercooler, alternator cover, and electronic boost controller that I ordered from grimmspeed on Black Friday. Per usual, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of the pieces. My car is slowly turning in to what looks like a grimmspeed display car.

Picking up the VF52 from Gex in the near future to accompany these parts. Just need to continue saving for the DW 65c fuel pump, ID injectors, and potentially a grimmspeed up pipe with external wastegate to complete this build before taking it to PIA for a dyno tune.

Also big surprise coming these week once they arrive!

Thanks man! I saw that you got a bit of feedback in the other thread you asked about it but I will say I absolutely love my car. To reiterate what the others have said, the biggest thing is do not buy one of these cars expecting to be lax about maintenance. These cars demand consistent attendance to fluid levels and otters maintenance but when done properly, from my experience I have had no major issues other than parts wearing out from sheer use around the expected time that they are said to last until. That being said, I've always used that as an excuse upgrade to better parts. Haha

That is so true bro lol , & yes so many have said make sure you're vigilant on the oil lines , and fluid levels .. I've also read in other threads to make sure you use the correct oil because that also effects the life on the car ... I appreciate it so much for your response and everyone else's . It really helps make my decision .

As promised, here's a surprise and the newest addition to my parts pile...

My brembos showed up today! They're off a 2007 Sti and look great just need to get cleaned up a bit. I plan to get the rebuild kits for both front and rear as well as DBA T2 slotted rotors, hawk hps 5.0 brake pads, ss brake lines, and the necessary brackets from KNS.

I'll be swinging by on the 17th to take those brembos off your hands. They'll look better on the black Wagon ;):spin: [emoji38]

Those are going to look awesome. I need to actually just bite the bullet and get some.

I don't know, I'm more of a blue and gold kind of guy myself. Haha but we should go for a cruise with some other wagons over break.

I'm stoked on them, figured more power requires better brakes. Just need to save up for the rest of the parts for the power and brakes now.

  • 2 weeks later...

Went back to the parents place where the car stays while I'm at school and took it for a short ride. When I pulled back into the driveway I noticed some white smoke coming out of the hood scoop, popped the hood and narrowed it down to it smoking from what appears to be oil on the up pipe. Since it was late and dark out I didn't get a chance to look more thoroughly to diagnose the issue but I'm planning to do so on Sunday after work.

After doing a bit of research it sounds like it is likely the oil return or oil feed line that is leaking and causing the issue. Is there anything thing else I should specifically look for when I get the car up on ramps in the daylight to try and sort out the issue?

Well for any of those who saw my for sale thread for the wagon, I think I must have been slipped some drugs to make me think that was a good idea. Needless to say the wagon isn't going anywhere! Time to make her a powerhouse wagon!

With that being said, I picked up Gex's VF52 with 24k on it to add to my build. Just need to get the DW65c fuel pump, ID1000's, and grimmspeed up pipe with external wastegate and save up for a tune!

I talked with pacific import auto who is tuning the car and they highly recommended it to avoid boost creep and said it would be good long term if I go with a bigger turbo. At this point I'm on the fence about it but if the finances allow I'll pick one up.

He was running the grimmspeed up pipe with tial external wastegate, which is why I've been considering the same setup. I love the sound of an EWG but I'm thinking it might be a bit much for my daily so I'm going to look into connecting it to my down pipe if I go that route.

Cleaned the car inside and out today, she looks nice and shiny now. I'll be snagging some shots of the spec b interior swap now that it's all cleaned up, just need to borrow my girlfriends go pro to get some nice wide angle shots.

Also put the car up on some ramps to try and diagnose my oil leak. From a quick inspection it appears to be the valve cover gaskets as suspected. Anyone see anything that would suggest otherwise based on this picture?

Well this is about four months over due considering I did the interior swap and stereo install back in August. The swap included the following:

-Tan interior components swapped for black interior pieces

-2008 spec b seats and door cards

-Black leather upright portion of rear seat reupholstered to match

-WRX pedals with Prosport dead pedal

-Switching the passenger seat base for an 05 seat to have a functioning occupancy sensor

While I had the interior out I completed the stereo install with the JDM double din kit, pioneer double din headunit, component speakers in the front doors, 6.5" speakers in the rears, 4 channel amp for the speakers, mono channel amp for the sub, and a 10 inch sub in a ported box. I also put dynamat on all four doors to improve the sound quality and dampen road noise.

Here's some pictures of the process and completed product:

I wish I could have seen this while I was home this break. Guess it will have to wait till summer. Looks great. I kinda want to do something similar however use 2007 specB interior pieces to get the blue alcantara.

Looks even better in person. Very well put together. Those are some of the best Subaru buckets to date. Wish it was in my car!

Thanks man, love hearing positive feedback on it! I have loved the spec b seats since I First saw them so I'm thrilled to have them in my car.

Yeah man, you'll definitely have to see them when you come back next. I was torn between whether or not I wanted the 07 or 08 spec b seats but was hesitant on how the blue alcantara would look with the regal blue. When the 08's popped up for sale I figured it was a sign.

Wish mine had Apple car play, mine just feels so unintelligent most of the time :/ almost want to upgrade to something newer but just can't justify it.

Are you not concerned about the heat created by the amps in such a tight well insulated area?
