Wow where have you been taking the car for work? All of those prices sound extremely high, like double what they should be.

It was fluctuating between two different shops, one charged a lot for labor but did a good job, the 2nd was dirt cheap and had been used by my family for years, but they do a not so good job.

^+1. Sounds like you need to get a set of wrenches. $840 for a hub and wheel bearing!!! Holy ****. The hub assembly new is about $130 or something. But I'm glad you love your legacy. :)

it was a while ago, but i think i remember that the bolt ended up being frozen in there, so it had to be drilled out or something.

LGT... I'd have killed myself. I like my Legacy, but its not worth 6 grand.

I spent 5 grand on a Porsche 924S once. It was amazing. Till the water pump exploded and undid 5 grand worth of work....

Where about do you live? I bet some people on here could recommend quality shops who charge a reasonable amount.

Right now I am going to school in exton PA, i found this shop called FAST of west chester that specializes in subarus and tuning. so i have been going there, they did the steering rack, main o2 sensor and ball joint. i would say they do good work, but they're expensive.

I know, and if I had known a that I would have been putting 6k into the car a year ago I would have gotten rid of it right on the spot, but of course all of this happened over time. so there was no way of knowing, i should have just seen the red flags before I even bought it.

My Outback has an electrical gremlin in it...preventing it from getting power to anything and starting.

It did it again this morning. I punched the fuse box under the hood and it started. I guess I should keep a hammer in the car now lol

have you pulled the fuse block and checked the contacts for gunk? happened on my old datsun 210. had 3 electricians tell me i needed a full harness replace before i decided to take a look for myself. an afternoon of emery cloth clean up and a few new leads and i was back in business.

To Stasis & all this may interest:

The switch panel to the windows works now after I finished scraping off what appeared to be soot on ALL of the terminals (it works as though I installed a brand new panel.)

I can correctly assume that the switch panel is the original part that came with the car because of the amount of soot that had accumulated from the constant & various electrical contacts of up & down over the years.

Because of this small issue, I suggest that everyone inspects any electrical module that has a switch (or switches), like fuse boxes, relays, buttons, etc.

You will be surprised at what you will find (if it hasn't corroded already.)

You guys have to remember that a shop marks up the cost of parts too. This is to help cover overhead costs (franchise fees, building rent, equipment purchase/maintenance, training, etc)...the shit adds up really quick.

However, almost $1000 seems a little rich for even the repair chain I work for....and my company is one the the higher priced ones out there.

Thats what I believe it is, but I haven't had the time to dig into it yet.

The battery might have gotten punctured by a broken spring and the electrolyte leaked out.

Wouldn't surprise me....there is battery acid coming out of the top of it....

Pulled the fuse box and things looked clean. I went ahead and cleaned things up anyways and put on new battery cables...and cleaned the grounds on the chassis. It seems to be working good now? lol. Maybe I just had a bad ground or a loose wire on the bottom of the fuse block

any shop that marks up 100-300% is not a shop i want to go to, regardless of their work. overall, mechanics are selling their skills, not parts. their labor costs cover the overhead in the burden, not the parts mark up. thats the same reason my rates are 115/ hr and our parts mark up is 20%. i seem expensive, but my competitors are all 135 and up. being a "specialist" is fun.

sometimes those clip connections in the back get wobbly, just reseating them may get a better connection.

i took my wagon through emissions last friday, it failed on the evap canister and gas cap. got a new gas cap, went to junk yard and found a canister to toss on there. not 2 miles away from the emissions place my car decides to throw a code. hasnt had a CeL for a few months. luckily it was after i got it to pass emissions. P0108 is the code. now i guess i start looking for leaks. i wonder if the new canister could have caused it.
