I Donated bucko3the7man Posted December 7, 2013 I Donated Share Posted December 7, 2013 i'm drinking bulleit rye manhattans for prohibition day. seems fitting enough. awfully tasty too Ever since I discovered the Manhattan my life changed. I ******* love those drinks
LatentWagen
Bulleit is good stuff, had some in my cabinet but it didn't last long. I like their bourbon. I like bourbon in general If you like rye, that 77 White Wax (newly empty) was awesome. Below is my shelf after the holiday rush. I've been into Scotch lately, and have been trying to get an idea for the different tastes. The Glenlivet 18 is probably my favorite so far, killed most of that bottle a bit too quickly, so I am moving down to 12's so I don't kill my wallet too. Over the holidays I had a chance to try Macallan 18, Johnnie Blue, and Laphroaig 15. Still want to try a dram of Yamazaki or another of the more heavily sherried single malts. http://i40.tinypic.com/2usyiyh.jpg LW's spec. tocinoman25
Have any of you tried winter Jack (Daniels) yet? Made a warm cider with caramel winter jack and some cream and heated it up for 35 seconds and it was pretty delicious...tasted like biting into a taffy apple Follow me on IG @chefodiycarguy and @chefo.soriano
Zero1
I got a Glenlivet 15 and a Laphroig Quarter Cask for Christmas. My fave scotches are still the Islays and Talisker from the Isle of Skye. So peaty and so delicious...

LatentWagen
Laphroaig 15 was by far the most memorable dram I've had... tastes like a smoke-bomb went off in a tin of Bandaids - but in a good way. I'm sure there's a better way to describe it, but I'm a Scotch noob and have never tasted or smelled the majority of the references these critics make when describing spirits. I'm pretty sure they discontinued it, with the 18 filling its spot. Haven't tried that one. LW's spec. B / YT / IG
Zero1
I've yet to try the 18 but it is very high on my list of priorities.
LatentWagen
Got off work early, and since we were on the topic I picked up two more bottles. Tomintoul 16 and Talisker 10 (at your rec, Zero1. Thanks!). The Tomintoul is nice and agreeable, the Talisker hits you in the face, sort of like the Laphroaig. You can really taste the sea, too. LW's spec. Zero1
I love the Talisker! What region is the Tomintoul from?
LatentWagen
It's a Speyside Glenlivet. Nice and smooth, well balanced for sure. Less peat and smoke. Currently enjoying a dram of Talisker! LW's spec. B / YT / IG
Zero1
If you like Laphroig, Ardbeg 10 is a touch lighter and just as good. The older Ardbeg's I've yet to find readily...

Not that that's a bad thing, just more noticeable imo

LatentWagen
Nice pickups, haven't tried the Doublewood but it seems to be a crowd-pleaser. I'm sipping a little Oogy (Ardbeg). Yum. LW's spec. B / YT / IG

SMielke
I try and buy a different bottle every time I go to the liquor store. Right now I am on a Rye kick. I'm liking Templeton Rye. Rye whiskey on the rocks with a nice cigar after a long week of work is nice.

subymike77
So my wife and I just had our first baby. As a gift to me she got me bottle of my favorite scotch made in my birth year. Glenlivet vintage 1977. It blew my mind and thought I'd share. Yes, I opened it and yea it is delicious. Then closed it again quickly.
LatentWagen
Very nice, Subymike! Once opened, you'll want to drink it in about a year. Plenty of time to savor Just returned from vacation and picked up a Glenlivet Nadurra at Dufry. $64 bucks! LW's spec. B / YT / IG
subymike77
Thanks LatentWagen. She found it on thewhiskeyexchange.com. Oh, what a dangerous website. She claimed there were only 4 bottles left of that year. I feel so lucky!
