fishbone Posted May 11, 2011 Share Posted May 11, 2011 I'll have to reconsider constantly overfilling, since a drain is not a bone-dry motor so long run who knows how much extra you end up adding. My oil level is right above where the dipstick bends back into straight-through. Make sense? About an inch above the mark. I was kinda worried. thisguys2130 Posted May 12, 2011 Share Posted May 12, 2011 I just changed my oil to Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 with a purolator filter. I might be crazy but I feel like the car doesnt have the power it did before when cruising. What I mean is when I let off the gas to raise the mileage it feels like their isnt enough power to hold the car at speed and get the mileage I was getting using the mobil1 5w30. For example when traveling at 70 mph on the highway with the mobil I could get between 30 and 33 mpg and now with the pennzoil I can get between 29 and 30. Does this make sense to anyone? Could this be caused by overfilling your oil? I have a little less than half a quart extra in it (got a little crazy with the oil jug). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Me thinks someone has been sniffing to many paint fumes in the new house. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). I am just worried I think because this is my first car that I have had a payment on and it makes me pay attention to the slightest things going on in my car lol. I have sent in samples of my oil to Blackstone 4 times (twice on our old B5 S4 and twice on our B6 S4) and it has tested VERY well at my 5K mile OCI. I changed the oil in our '08 OBXT a couple weeks back and used M1 0-40 just because I like the performance of the M1 but I am wondering if it is too far our of "range" for these motors. I ran it a short time ago in a stock FXT for a 6k mile interval, and while wear was very good, the TBN dropped to 1.99. The uoa is here. Since that uoa, M1 reformulated the 0W-40 to meet API SN specs. In the process, the viscosity at 100C dropped by .5 cst's (IIRC) and the HTHS and TBN were bumped up slightly. I recently decided to run it again since I couldn't resist the $29.99 for five quarts sale at Autozone so I'll see how the SN version holds up. Although S4's are pretty tough on oil, I presume the B5 and B6 S4's have larger than a 5 quart sump capacity which helps. 574-240sx Posted February 28, 2012 Share Posted February 28, 2012 I have been using Valvoline Synthetic 5w-30. the car has been using 1/2-3/4 a quart in 2500 miles city driving, oil is pretty dark when drained it. Went to florida and back, didn't use any oil and was still gold when I drained it. Part of my problem might be my car doesn't warm up on my drive to work and drive home(1.5 miles each way). I'm not even that hard on the throttle My car eats mobil1 synthetic as well, at a rate of 1 quart every 3-4k. I have been using pennzoil platinum 5w-30 and switched the last oil change to the ultra 5w-30 and the burn rate is the same. My next oil change is due at 75k and pennzoil has no synthetic high mileage oil yet so I think I am going to switch to their high mileage oil. I used that for 50k on my 97 intrepid and never used to burn a drop even when I sold her at 179k. I used it in our 98 grand cherokee (5.2 v-8) as well from like around 100k - 164k, and that thing didnt burn any oil either. Pennzoil Ultra Euro Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil I'm running their "Platinum" in my Suburban and have heard good things about the Platinum and Ultra.
