Baddog
did you ever pull your first cat? Or has anybody else pulled either of their cats? I pulled my muffler about a week and a half ago and it was just loud... put me on the market for a nice cat back but I didn't notice any power difference. it just heated my rear diff pretty good. RalliTEK is making the Rear Sway Bar again... or its at least on the site... Not yet. Trying to decide what I need to do exactly.
JAC Wagon
Im gonna pull my whole pipe off. Gonna have a shop bend me a custom 2.5 inch pipe and Ill add a high flow cat to it myself. I like my rumble and subtle exhaust note now, but I want it a little louder. So Ill delete all the resonators and the cat) I am thinking about getting those racelands here VERY soon. Wont I need camber bolts for the rear though?
Baddog
Possibly. Camber bolts are cheap though. ~$15 or so.
JAC Wagon
Ok, cool. Another noob question for those who have swapped seats... I like the look of wrx 02,03 seats. How do they sit in a leggy? Are they bolt in or need fabrication? What (if any) seats bolt straight in with little work. This is my DD so it cant be "down" for longer than a day at the most for the moment. I Donated broknindarkagain Posted July 31, 2011 I Donated Share Posted July 31, 2011 WRX seats or STI seats are a direct bolt in swap. They just sit a little higher then the stock Legacy seats. You will have to switch over the buckle thing for your seatbelt though. Its easy to do -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Theres a guy selling 03 WRX seats (front and rear) on i-club. Thought it would be a better upgrade than my stock cardboard feeling ones. Not to mention, Im 6'1 and even I use that little crank thing to lift my seat all the way up. Then I dont feel like I need a booster seat I would like to find a set of HEATED seats to swap in too... that would be very nice. bolt in fine.. read the list of seats on page 1 I know I know! But I wasnt sure about the ride height or if they were bolt in or you had to swap the rails too or whatever.
JAC Wagon
Braking: WRX Brake Swap – increase braking power with 2pot calipers and larger, 11.5” diameter rotors from the Impreza WRX Am I to assume ANY year WRX will swap onto my outback? Is there anything special I need to know/do/look for while Im searching for a donor WRX?
Zues Marine
2002-2004 would be best, you'll need calipers, brackets, rotors, and its pretty much a straight swap
JAC Wagon
how much work is entailed in installing coilovers? is it something I can do in my garage in a few hours? Or should I wait and reserve a full afternoon at the hobby shop on base?
Zues Marine
unbolting struts (5 bolts)... reinstalling 5 bolts per wheel
JAC Wagon
What about the springs? Getting the old springs and struts off seems to be the most work involved... am I right? Will I need a spring compress?
Baddog
If you're getting a set of coilovers you should just be able to pull the brake line off the strut, 3 bolts at the top hat, 2 bolts at the knuckle. Lift and remove. Easy I have done this at least 10 times now.

I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 4, 2011 I Donated Share Posted August 4, 2011 Installing coilovers is EASY Remove the rear seat Jack up and jackstand all 4 wheels...remove wheels unbolt the two bolts that hold the strut to the steering knuckle (all 4 wheels) unclip the brake line from the sturt and undo the brake line from the caliper (front wheels) feed the brake line through the thing on the strut undo the top 3 bolts on each strut (you can access the rears by removing the back seat) bolt everything up the same way! bleed the brakes top off brake fluid go gen an alignment If you have access to a shop, I would suggest using it. Having access to air tools to do this job will make your life A LOT easier. On the bottom steering knuckle bolt on the rear, you will probably have to use a swivel&extension on one side....and a open end wrench on the other side of the bolt (because the axle). Thats really the only "hard" part to it. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." JAC Wagon
Once I get the spring rate set, ill adjust the ride height back to where I want it. till then, its fun to show off and even more fun to drive!!!!
Baddog
Loving the OB. How is the ride on them? Adjustability? Anything you can say about them.
JAC Wagon
Ive got some rubbing issues from the tires being so wide, they rub on the fenders outside edge. The ride is surprisingly nice! I tweaked the spring rate a little too tight tonight, so every bump feels like a massive pothole, ill fix it tomorrow. The ride height is low, lower and drag yo sheet on da ground.
