How many miles are on your 2nd gen Legacy?
30legacyl replied to 98LGTLover's topic in Second Generation Legacy (1994 - 1998)
Nope- Finished/Retired/ out to pasture- 330,858 miles. Too much LR Quarter rust to justify repairs in my driveway. It will become a driveline donor, pulling 2.2L motor, 5MT, rear diff, pedal assembly, harness, ECU & shifter/console for another 2nd Gen down the road. The chassis/body w/title will be available later in August. Winestone Pearl Outback/GT hood, great Left Fender, trunk lid & 3 VG doors 1 near Mint LF door. -
Well, we bought a one owner 2014 Subaru Certified Crosstrek Premium 2.0L 5MT w/ 52K miles in 2017. Every great once in a while it would 'pop out' of 4th. Just as the extended warranty expired (102K) , it would start once in a while to not fully go in on the 5/4 or 4/3 downshift. Thursday I had to rescue the wife late on her way home, as she got halfway from Lehigh Valley to Poconos and the car got 'stuck' in 3rd as she exited the highway. It stalled out and she was able to pull over w/ clutch depressed, but stalled the motor out every time she tried to release the clutch. I was able to get it out of gear and moving again with great force. Car was 'stuck in 3rd. Eventually I was able to shift into 5th & 1/2. Now it has absolutely NO engagement in 3/4 but i can drive it in 1/2/5 and reverse works. SO, I have no idea what my issue is.... Is it an external shifter bushing/linkage concern, (My dad had this issue on a Toyota pickup he had) or the synchros/ shiftlevers internally? Is my trans needing minor repair or a full rebuild? I DO have an old 99 Legacy 2.2L 5MT that ran just shy of 331K miles with NO issues until it wore thru the clutch release fork on the pivot! I am in the process of parting it out due to rear quarter & wheelwell rust-thru. COULD i swap the 5MT off of the 2.2EJ motor for my '14 Crosstrek? Not even sure if the gear ratios are the same or if I would have to swap the rear diff too....My car runs close to 3100/3200 RPM @ 65/70 MPH. Other option would obviously be a used 5MT or 6MT from salvage. Could a 6MT work? Not an STI 6MT but out of a a forester or WRX? I've Tried researching on NASIOC but all threads seem to focus on the STI/WRX swaps... Any an all help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

310,298 Miles- now looking for RF parts to reassemble as they want to total her out.....Lower Control arm & sway bar link are the only structural parts bent underneath- All bolt-ons! Need sheet metal & lights, & have to 'stretch' right corner of Radiator Support & inner fender back into place.... Can't do a new car pymt. now... I'll know more when I talk to Ins. Adjusters (theres & mine).... Thinking I can do it for less than 500 w/ correct color parts from car-partdotcom from what I researched locally. -

309,6XX miles, but a Cabbie merged right lane into left w/o looking & tried to drive thru/over the front of the wife & kid tonight. RF tire jammed into fender; hood, rturn & headlight, fender & bumper cover done, rad support crushed down on rt corner. He may have killed the Subie, will talk to both insurance co's tomorrow. So, if she is dead, what years Legacy Wagons can I easily swap my Phase2 EJ22 into in place of a bad EJ25? Not gonna get much I guess, so I 'm on a budget 'till contract is settled @ work..... Unbelievably bummed..... Just spent $300+ chasing down a bad injector. Just got it back to 100%.... -

99 Legacy L 2.2l 5 spd- 222,387 miles; Original motor, 2nd clutch- MOBIL 1 only since 7500 miles. General Altimax Artic Snows (no studs) & got 32MPG Hwy first week of January '10- Poconos to Gettysburg, PA & back. Regularly gets 25-27 on 80 Mi daily commute @ 65-70 MPH. NOW 229K miles I was getting in the 20-22mpg range before replacing the front O2 sensor last year and switching from Bosch Platinum2 plugs to E3's in DEC '09.
