Cornelius
Here are pics of the Aus (right hand drive) model. Notice the sources are DISC, AM, FM and AUX (no SAT) so I don't know if the Kenwood iPod Kit will work with these models. It seems almost identical, only the software number is different, i have 4000 / v2.0 and i have auto/off button in that button for fan.
atmurray
Ah yes, that would be because you have dual zone air conditioning? Here in Aus that's a feature of the next model up. I don't suppose you have the auxiliary input installed? After taking these pics I took my car into the service centre to have the aux-in installed only for them to scratch the head unit and realise they have the wrong part. The reason I ask is that I'm wondering if the aux-in for Navigation equipped models has the three RCA plugs for video in or if it is still the audio jack socket. So has anyone outside of the US tried installing a Kenwood iPod integration kit? I'd be very interested to know, especially if it works with the AVN system as a touch screen interface. atmurray
I've created a page on subiwiki.com which details the AVN system and the variations which exist here: http://subiwiki.com/wiki/index.php/Audio_Video_Navigation Ultimately I want to document the pin-outs of all the variations of head units to make mods like the Nav motion unlock much easier to do. I think it would be great if all the info contained in this thread was summarised on this page but I need the help of you US and Euro guys to fill it in. Denver133
Finally got around to doing this mod after a year. Super easy.
atmurray
For those with the Nav unit integrated into the head unit (Cornelius, I beleive this includes you), I've deciphered most of the pins on the 24pin connector found on the back of the head unit. Interestingly it includes AV in/out and sub pre-out which is great for those wanting to install an amp. On this connector is what I believe to be the pin for the park break which would be required to do this mod. I haven't tried this out myself but will get around to it soon and will report back my results. Wiring diagram is up on the wiki, please update the wiki with your own info and experience (I don't know which other model Legacy/Liberty use this Nav setup)! Vinniety
I plan on doing this mod this weekend. The main question i have is...I have the 2.0 version of the NAV cd and there are locations that the unit cant find for one my house. My house is about 35years old and when i am somewhere far i would love to hit home and tell me how to get there. Now im putting in land marks or even my moms house which is 30 minutes away from me so at least i can get to an arear that i know. Can this be the version CD? When i was at the dealer i told them about it and they said i had to leave it so a tech can look into it. I basically told them what is there to look into the unit doent find my house or two of my friends homes. Do you have the newer version cd it might have the updated maps or at least another version 2.0 to test. She said once again you will need to leave it. I just left. Maybe if she said let me get a tech that is specific in electronics just to talk to him and see what he has to say i would appreciate it but NOPE cant do. So what do you guys think would a CD version find my house or not? Is there anyone in the westchester area that can let me test with there cd in my NAV unit? Please let me know thanks. robertsm99
Was just curious if this would work when I decide to do it and it's warm enough to be outside to take my seats apart. I found it at Fry's and it was like $2. It's a minature aligatr clip to standard banana plug 22-AWG 18"L. Was just curious if it will fit into the plug on the back where it needs to be grounded. Hope the pictures are clear enough to show how big it is. Thanks.
stewartg
It's been so long since I did it, I don't quite remember, but that looks a little large. I used a pin and wire from a molex connector like a floppy drive power cable or fan power splitter on one end and bolted the other end down. robertsm99
Thanks, I thought it might be too big, but spending $2.50 on it wasn't that big a deal, I'll probably find another use for it. appreciate it.
hankhill
Hi all, and especially to XiiiXiii, always grateful to someone who takes the time to share their findings with others! I’m keen to do this mod, but on checking my Nav unit under the driver’s seat, the wires are different. Mine is a UK model 2005 model year Outback 3 liter. My main menu screen does not show the parking brake status (in common with most people here), but if I go into the diagnostic screen it’s there, and shows whether parking brake is on or off. If I do this right, the attached photos should show what I have. Where XiiiXiii’s photo showed pin 2 as a blank hole with a “ground this pin” arrow, my connector has a green wire. If I’ve done this right, there’s a photo and diagram attached. I’d be really grateful if someone could tell me which wire I need to ground, or is it an impossible mod on UK cars? Thanks in advance! http://dc110.4shared.com/img/95646345/c7f232a/DSC01053crop.jpg http://dc110.4shared.com/img/95646347/e2714206/Clip.jpg
SVXdc
Where XiiiXiii’s photo showed pin 2 as a blank hole with a “ground this pin” arrow, my connector has a green wire. It's a pretty good bet that that harness in your car has the parking brake wire, and it's green. That's actually pin 5, according to the pin-out posted by Jon [in CT]. Can you disconnect that plug and verify the green wire using a meter? Test using volts first (you might see +12V while brake is off and Ground while it's on). If not, then disconnect the battery and measure the resistance from that wire to ground. If that really is your parking brake wire, you would need to extract that pin and then do the hack as XiiXii described (insert a new wire to connect that pin location to ground). While you're at it, can you take some clear pictures of the socket on the Nav unit and the pins side of that plug? If you have trouble figuring out how to extract the pin, I might be able to offer some tips once I see those. Once you do get the pin extracted, I'd like to see a picture of that too. There's a chance the same pins are used by an aftermarket radio harness. Then folks would have something better to use than paperclips or doubled-up wires. hankhill
http://legacygt.com/forums/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.4shared.com/file/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.html%22%20target=_blank%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://dc119.4shared.com/img/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.JPG%22%20border=%220%22%3E%3C/a%3EDone. I found the service manual online, and it confirmed that the green wire was the handbrake. I tapped into it without breaking or disconnecting it using a ScotchLok connector, then used a meter to confirm that it was indeed the handbrake / parking brake wire. I then grounded it to the black wire; it worked but the handbrake light stayed on. So, I cut the green wire in front of the connection and it now works just fine. Attached photo shows what I did, you can just about see the cut wire sticking out of the loom. Thanks for the reply! http://legacygt.com/forums/%5BIMG%5Dhttp://dc119.4shared.com/img/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.JPGhttp://dc119.4shared.com/img/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.JPG http://legacygt.com/forums/%5BURL=http://www.4shared.com/file/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.html%5D%5BIMG%5Dhttp://dc119.4shared.com/img/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.JPG%5B/IMG%5D%5B/URL%5D

Here's your picture, fixed so that clicking on it opens up the larger version: http://dc119.4shared.com/img/96881793/47efedb/DSC01062.JPG Can you post similar pictures looking straight into the socket and at the end of the plug (while they're unplugged)? robertsm99
So I took off my seat today to take a look at the connector. I didn't have the pictures, tools or clip to ground the wire, but just wanted to check and make sure which spot I need to ground. Sorry about the picts, forgot to take my camera with me so it's crappy crackberry pictures. So I want to ground the slot between the green and purple wires right? I found little pin connectors at radio shack that will fit into the slot

markc0220k
no wonder day before yesterday right after i picked up my car, first time i tried to "test" the nagv when i was on the way going home from the dealer, i found no way to input the address. but once i was home, sitting at the drive way, then it "allow" me to dial my address. I thought i didn't know how to do it or something wrong with the touchscreen funtion (But actually i just repeated the step ... )!! very sense making mod, will definately try it! thanks Zmark0 ! It's easy to do. And for the record, it doesn't unlock everything on the NAV (calculator, etc), but the NAV functions it does.

08GT
Nice! It took me a few tries: On the '08 nav (with V.2.0 DVD) there's no PKB. in the Vehicle signals screen. I thought it wasn't connected well. I had to go into the hidden diagnostics screen to see the sensor signal. I jumpered pin 5 to Pin 2. So you don't have to use the search button... Hidden Diag Screen: Press "Menu" touch top center of screen for 10 seconds. Type in 014220. This mod was extremely easy to do. I just stuffed an 18 gauge wire in the right slot and grounded it to a screw on the nav chassis. That was it, no drama . I have an 08 LGT and found the quoted info from Kargurra very helpful.
