ChicagoSam
After 3 years hanging around in my garage, the heart of the 402 finally gets a short road trip to the SubaruShop. Big shout out to the random construction guy working on my neighbors house that came over and helped me drag the engine into the truck.( he must have took pity on me as he watched my struggle) Unfortunately there’s nothing too special about the block (ej255-not a 257). The heads will get pulled and of course the turbo ( I basically bought a hunk of metal with a rare VF-51 attached). And the time has come to ask your friends: “hey man, do you have an S402 downpipe for sale? There’s a guy on the forum that needs one.” The twin scroll flange has a ‘unique’ shape. Making one may be the route to go.( unless you know a guy who knows a guy. I’m happy to travel, but not across the pond-thanks!)

This is the first time that I have ever read this about the flexible tower brace: “It is not recommended to install together with the "Lower Arm Bar" (Part Number: ST2051021010) as it will not be able to demonstrate the original performance of the flexible tower bar.” From here: https://www.sti.jp/parts/legacyb4_bl/chassis/ST2050221011/ I was under the impression that the S402 came with all of the STi bits that are available for the BL/BP chassis (except the rigid lower arm bar, since it has the flexible one) I believe that only applies to the rigid lower bar not the flexible lower one. I remember someone posting about it years ago that the flexible bars should be used together and not combined with any of the rigid lower or strut bars. That part # number listed pulls up the rigid lower bar on Blackhawk Japan. https://www.blackhawkjapan.com/products/sti-st2051021010-1 2

I don’t think they made the 402’s piano black ashtray option for LHD?( ever offered in the Tuned by STI version?)Even with the Macintosh center radio(stock in the pic)above the ashtray pictured, it’s not lining up-I’ll have to coat a LHD piece.. Is that a RHD piece? Do you need a LHD one? Dr Dave’s right, see STi’s site. Edited March 1, 2023 by SoobyDoobyDoo
ChicagoSam
Updated the original 09 Nav with Pioneer single din touch screen but kept the OG McIntosh down below. Some convincing was needed since the McIntosh is from a rhd. (Just climate controls work-radios all up top) also a few “Piano Black” vents as well.

blackobxt
Oooo buddy you got some balls getting ready to cut that dash lol. Did you find those piano black vents or sand and paint the existing?
ChicagoSam
It’s that time of year so on go the BBS with some original spec 235/40/18s. Great ride quality with plenty of grip-no more “pucker factor” on road imperfections. I do park 10’ from the curb these days. car is also much lighter on its feet-but just bling.

It’s just a dash… it can be replaced…I’ve thought about that as well be really nice to have a mic for hands-free phone use…

m sprank
Its a center channel speaker for the Macintosh system. There are far easier places to tuck a mic for hands free phone. The mic in my 03 Forester for instance (wish I could have fit it behind the OEM "grill" for the chime), with a JDM double din dash pod.

It’s amazing how the mic just blends in. I can’t even see it in the second pic!
m sprank
I might not have installed it yet, lol. But once the key was in place it was almost undetectable. It was a long project. In the end I had dual screens that worked together or separate. Nav and audio, audio and video, nav and video, etc. Found a spot for my USB too, never used the ashtray. I can appreciate what the OP is doing. Its a labor of love as the money aspect will never equate. I dropped over $25k into a Forester I bought for $1500 and then sold for $3k. Still miss her every day. Edited June 21, 2023 by m sprank

I have the center speaker as well-it’ll need it’s own power source-lots of rewiring. “TightFit Fabrication” has helped a bunch for adaptors. fingers crossed

ChicagoSam
Neat to find the auto leveling device for the headlights on the rear suspension arm/ just tacked it on going down the line. ( I do have a complete wiring harness from an S402 but hesitated installing the leveling unit. Chasing Electric gremlins is a skill I lack.)
