BigBopper
I'm going to see once I do a test fit if I can relocate the bov. What about the intake hose from the IC to the TB??
Rutchard
What about the intake hose from the IC to the TB?? Samco does have a part # listed for the intake on the 5th gen. Haven't been able to find a pic, but maybe it would cover the TMIC to TB... EDIT: TCS516/IND is the part number. Samco USA site says non-turbo, but that's gotta be a typo. Same part number is listed for the turbo on the UK and "rest of world" sites.

I've only found a SAMCO listing for Non Turbo. Legacy BR9/BM9 2.5Ltr EJ25 Non Turbo TCS516/IND Induction 2 CK616/IND Manual Transmission Edit: I'll do some more checking. May have to take one for the team here.
fahr_side
What about the intake hose from the IC to the TB?? The BR9 one is the same part as on my WRX which is in turn the same as 4th gen LGT. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. Looks to be post airbox piping. Not what we were looking for. We were looking for the connector hose between the TMIC and the TB ... the search goes on. http://www.supergt.com.hk/full/COLSCBR9-2.jpg
fahr_side
We were looking for the connector hose between the TMIC and the TB ... the search goes on. That's what I was talking about. Obviously the post-MAF hose isn't compatible, you guys don't have one! Rutchard
I've only found a SAMCO listing for Non Turbo. Like I said, the rest of the world lists that part number for the turbo model. The USA site is wrong. Unfortunately from that photo it does look like it's just smoothing out the bits before the turbo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/Rutch/CarPics/LegacyGT/samcoLGT.jpg looks like it replaces 13 and 15 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/Rutch/CarPics/LegacyGT/airboxdiag.jpg

minuccims
Thanks again to Matt for letting me take your car apart. LOL Nice progress. Bryan - Questions: 1- Did you think about an option to move the BOV up top? 2- How does the the smallest diameter/area of this charge pipe compare to the OEM equivalent? (Indent just before the elbow). Although the 5th gen TMIC is 25% larger than the 4th gen the efficiency of the TMIC seems to have been to have been reduced by the length of the charge pipe, and unfortunately the air flow restriction in the OEM pipe at the elbow. A "hope" is for this charge pipe to provide increased efficiency over OEM. Any thoughts? http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab160/BigBopper_01/LGT/P1010005.jpg

GravityGear
I'm not going to speak for Bryan here, but these are my observations. There is little to no room for a larger pipe in the front of the engine bay. It may make a difference, but it would be quite modest. The advantage of the aftermarket chargepipe would be getting rid of the accordion flex areas of the pipe. That, in theory, would eliminate expansion and volumetric increase during boost (especially higher boost applications which this pipe was not designed to handle). In a previous vehicle I owned (Mazdaspeed Protege) there were a few of these joints and replacing the stock piping with hardpipes resulted in a modest increase in low to midrange power and some increase in throttle response. IIRC, someone had placed a camera and a light in their engine bay and actually had this expansion on video and it was pretty apparent. I think the biggest advantage would come to those who have been protuned for higher boost. If there are any points in the stock pipe that have been fused together (i should have checked, but someone may know; perhaps at the bpv port), weak points would be created and increase the chance for the pipe rupturing when exposed to hard pulls at increased boost levels. i know that there were a few in the MSP community that had actually ripped the plastic pipes open during hard pulls (on some of the older cars). IMO, necessity if you are getting your car tuned. If not, necessity to make your engine bay look badass. again, these are just my observations. we will have to wait for official word from Bryan on this. forgot to mention, if anyone has the diameter of the stock pipe or can easily measure it, Bryan can correct me here if i'm wrong, the RX chargepipe is, IIRC, 2". SurlyOldManMN
Catastrophic failure is the reason I'm interested. Period. Zero performance gain is fine with me so long as I know it's not going to blow up. I don't trust the stock charge pipe to stay together.

itsme
Ok, to answer your questions. 1- It's not much room to run a line back to the intake if you put the BOV on top and room is limited if people want to run the engine cover. 2- the pipe is 2" off the turbo. The turbo outlet is about 1 7/8. At the first coupler the pipe goes to 2.5" and uses a 2.5" to 2.75 coupler at the TMIC. I don't claim any huge performance gains. This was made as a more durable option over a stock charge pipe that doesn't have the restriction at the elbow. Bryan Nice progress.
