sqc151
after removing and installing those turbos a few times. youll find out you dont need swivels, just the right tools.
monkeyposeur
Well, the long handled swivel was the only tool that finally worked after trying everything that I had. It took a lot of force/torque to break the nuts loose. So I felt that I found the right tool. What are the right tools that you use? Don't leave us hanging. sqc151
hard to explain. but after removing/installing these turbos numerous times, u find little tricks. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa474/sqc151/93%20SS%20turbo/photobucket-4659-1323135262700.jpg
monkeyposeur
Yup, that's what mine looks like now. Only that area of my engine is caked with a lot of oily gunk. The power steering pump seems to be weeping, and there is a lot of gunk around the rear of the valve cover. Did you use anti-seize compound when you put the turbo back on? monkeyposeur
Holy crap this SS HG replacement is getting epic. Four days into it and the engine is still in there. I'm tired. This is the most involved mechanical endeavor that I have ever undertaken. I hope this thing runs when I finish up. I was finally able to get the lower transmission bolt on the driver's side loose. I didn't remove the axle at first since I didn't know it was necessary. Removing the axle took a few hours. I tried as hard as I could with the 1/2 breaker bar but that thing was stuck. Yes, I unlocked the nut first. So I had to go to poop boys and buy an electric impact gun. It's a Kawasaki and was able to break the nut loose, so I might keep it. I thought that I might just use it and return it. It was $76 so if there is a better one for the same price let me know. Time to take a break from this beast and do other stuff for the weekend, like drink beer, now. Edited February 18, 2012 by monkeyposeur
NinjaPablo
Got both valve covers off and cleaned up. Put the new gasket in the passenger side one and put it back on. Figured as long as I have everything out of the way, I'd do plugs & wires too. Going to get the drivers side cover back on tomorrow, along with finishing up the fuel filter and external ATF filter. For now, beer! On that note, does anyone have a part number for the original external filter? I thought I had it wrote down somewhere, but can't find it, and the parts desk at the dealership closed at 1:

05LGTLtd
Ebay brake lines went on this weekend. Took a little twisting here and there, but they worked. Not bad for $60 shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/250878973010?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648 Edited February 20, 2012 by 05LGTLtd All I need now is a hill holder and a center passing light... NinjaPablo
Finally got everything buttoned back up. New fuel filter and hoses for it. Started right up! Ended up having to replace the PCV hoses from the valve covers too, they both split while I was putting them back on.

monkeyposeur
sqc121, too bad you are out on the east coast. It would be super awesome to get my black SS and your white SS together. Maybe they would have little silver babies, lol. Looks like your turbo inlet boot is intact, lucky guy! I am still bummin' that mine is cracked to hell. I'm trying to figure something out though. Any advice?

OR, try and find one in the junkyard.... your free SS doesnt have one? I posted on that thread right before you posted that link. I saw the UK listed ones. They are super expensive, about 70 pounds. The hole configuration is a bit different, so I was concerned that rerouting some of the hoses would cause issues. It might be my best bet right now. subikid is trying to make an elbow/coffecan mod unit right now. If it works he hopes to provide them for SS owners. And no, there was no elbow on my junk SS.
