Metric? Ugh.

That's longer than the 09+ key.

I already shut down VMWare, so I can't check the height of the remote.

I MIGHT do a cover for those AIO keys, but that's on the furthest back burner at the moment.

Just have to measure the transponder and make it's pocket and locate some holes, and the design is ready to cut!

Really am interested in this design and would necessarily go with the teardrop option. Two questions:

  1. Since prototyping is ongoing, how will encasing everything in metal affect the transmitter's ability to signal the car's receiver (what's the signal attentuation for both the transmitter and the responder chip in the key itself)? I know right now that I can signal over 100 yards through metalized tint for all functions on the teardrop board - would not want to lose too much of this.
  2. How shock resistant would these be, relative to the current plastic casing? Would adding bulk/weight make the electronics more or less prone to damage if dropped (as I seem to regularly do)? Any way to add some isolative lining?

Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing some of the initial design layups.

SBT,

1) Good points. I was curious about the range effect. I don't think there will be much of an impact on range, but I'll find out when prototypes arrive and I can test them.

2) Since everything within the board is solid-state, there is little chance of actual damage when dropping the key. The worst you might do is scratch the case. I have been thinking about using a closed-cell foam pad beneath the module. If nothing else, it'll give a "soft" feel to the button presses.

Last week was unproductive. I had some big breakthroughs at work and on my masters thesis, and both obviously take priority over this side project.

That said, I am still on target for an end-of-May prototype.

Holy crap, the end of last week and this week have really blown up. Between work and writing grad proposals, I haven't had much time to work on this. Still shooting for end of May protos though.

I'm in for a push-button start and keyless igntion

Wrong thread, then.

Things have slowed down a bit, so I'll get back to finishing this up.
