I actually just purchased an 08 Legacy Gt Ltd myself, being a former owner of an 04 wrx modded to no end. I was searching around the forums and keys caught my interest because I do indeed find the key to be gaudy. So for the books, I actually joined this forum because of my interest in this prototype that you are making and to put some of my input out there.

As for the swing or the out the front question, it's a hit or miss for the out the front IMO. I believe I would prefer the swing BUT I would have to see the proto for the out the front with the FOB put in and everything. I just can't picture how thick it may have to be to accompany the FOB in there. With that being said, since from what I've read my understanding is that we will have to take out our boards from of FOB and directly drop them into the new key assembly. Sounds fantastic to me, but not to be ignorant to the situation, do all of the keys from 05+ have the same size board in them for the AIO? On my 08 Legacy AIO, it's not a tear drop. I may have misread that information somewhere where as I thought someone had stated they were tear dropped, but I could be wrong there.. I also agree that a nice ano would like cool, as would a brushed metal affect. Price wise, I'd agree to $50 is a decent price. For the people who really would be interested, myself included, I feel would possibly pay up to $75 for a quality key just as a base with no customizations. Hope this helps in any way, shape, or form! Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the board.

The out-front method will actually reduce the overall width of the key, but will make it a bit thicker. The overall length would be about the same between them.

I am using terminology common to seasoned members, so I'll clarify a bit.

The "Teardrop" key fob is this one:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii287/bac52/remoteteardrop_1280_general.jpg

The AIO key is this one:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii287/bac52/5461716446536269486e5439446b7273797141-149x149-0-0.jpg

I am making two separate keys. One that will use the board and buttons from the tear drop, and one that will use the module from the AIO. That is much less expensive for everyone.

As for pricing, it is still undecided. I'm hopeful for a certain target, but I'll hold off on announcing anything until I have firm prices.

Thanks for all of the interest

Well, yes. That too.

Hopefully I'll get time today to finish your design.

Hmm, that's a good point. I've never seen one of those keys. I thought they were only for the Tribeca.

I was only planning on producing the two keys I listed above (because I have one of each).

Anyone have a spare key like the one F3arN0Ev0 posted?

It would be best to compare the 2 AIO keys side by side, but JUST based on pictures the only difference looks like the case itself. The actual layout of the buttons looks the same. If that's the situation, then the casing of the AIO FOB/Key itself wouldnt be an issue because the board would be the same. Again though, it may require the 2 keys to be side by side and taken apart, etc to ensure they are the same internally.
If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off.

As far as my dealer states, which isn't always correct mind you, all of the 2008 models use this design as their AIO. I'd only being assuming that it's 08+ models but I can't exactly see them using this model and then reverting back to the old style key one year later? Yet with that said I went to the website I posted above and check out all the years of the key and unfortunately the 2008 seems to be the only one that doesn't have the design of the AIO you had posted above. Go figure..

I guess I'll try to contact my dealership once again and talk to someone different, maybe in the sale department, and see if it's possible to use that AIO with the 2008. Unfortunately at that point, I would have to purchase another key and get it programed just to buy the key you're making. Boy this is looking to be expensive.

Yea, if the other AIO key module is different than the 09 AIO key, then it might not fit.

I've been hitting some delays at work, so the overall design is taking longer than I wanted. I hope I'll be able to finish the AIO version on Saturday, and then I'll try to knock out the Teardrop next.

Executor485, as for the design and the button placement the unlock and trunk buttons are reversed on my model compared the other. That's not exactly something that's a big matter though because if they are placed in the same position on the board just switched then it could still fit in the new key, I would just have backwards buttons.

subscribed. just wanted to say that the idea to make a custom flip or otf key is pretty awesome. I personally would put $75 down very quickly but anything >90 i'd have to take some time to consider. As far as the design is concerned, I am impartial to the action. I would simply vote for whichever design would be the most reliable in the long run (years not months). Black or silver with a subie logo would problably fit the widest range of tastes if you were looking to keep production costs down, but i suppose the quickest way to find out would be to put another poll in the group buy section prior to starting the mass production.

Also with the 09 I noticed that they have both models of the AIO. You can get the squared model such as mine, and the model you posted above. With that said, if the boards don't actually look the same on the inside and won't match up. I'd suggest you make this clear with pictures when actually selling them just so there aren't any mix ups. :)

I'm definitely crossing my fingers that it's going to be the same board in there. If you need any clarifications on this, I would be willing to take mine apart and compare pictures with someone elses model just as a reference. If it is extremely different it will be very noticeable I would think.

The trunk and unlock buttons are the same diameter, and the placement of the buttons and sizes of the buttons look similar, so there is a good chance that the module is the same. But without being able to measure one, I can't say for sure.

As far as I know, ALL 2009's came with the key I posted. My 2.5i did, and my XT does.

I found pictures posted of the 07 AIO keys internals and took mine apart to compare and it's quite different. The board itself is actually a different shape, and the transponder chip is placed on the opposite side, which makes a different issue in itself with the casings design. Oh well, hopefully this information is useful for you in some way. Regardless thank you for responding!

You may want to take your key apart and take pictures with a measuring tape, get all the dimensions possible, distance of buttons from eachother, etc. BAC5.2 could then compare those directly to what he has and should be able to come up with the answer to both types fitting or not. Could be a lot easier (and cheaper) than having to buy all the different keys to check.

Just post a picture of the key open.

The "side" the transponder is on doesn't matter at all. It'll go where it goes, and the car won't care as long as it's in range.

As for the remote, it really depends on overall shape and button location.

Judging by what I've seen, that square key is unique to 2008 models.

Once I finish the AIO drawing, it won't be too difficult to do the teardrop. I'm still shooting for prototypes at the end of May.

Not the same. This is the one I have designed for. But if you have an accurate dimension for the length and width of the module I could design a hybrid AIO fob.

This is what the 09 AIO looks like:
