I had a long discussion about tips with Stromung. Double wall wil fit. Oval will not. Tucking them up all the way into the top of the cut out does not work. Cut out too narrow and round. Tips would have to be too small.

I am going over in person to approve the tips before production. Offset is doable, and I already requested it. Not a lot of offset, just enough to curve with the bumper.

Dont worry. I will be SUPER ANAL about the tips before giving the OK. I know it will be well built and sound superb. But the tips are what we will all see every day.

Did I hear wagon fitment? In!

Well, once upon a time Stromung had a wagon specific jig which implies there's a little more to a wagon specific exhaust than just longer tips. True wagon love. If they are going to dust it off and build another round JUMP! Stromung makes quality automotive lingerie. I love the way mine looks and sounds. For pics, click here and scroll down. Sorry, no sound clips, but if anyone on the interest list lives near PDX and wants to see / hear them, send me a PM.

FYI on tips. Stromung makes a double wall resonated tip and the regular single wall. The LGT exhaust comes with the single wall probably because single wall tips asthetically look much bigger...which is sort of the point of this system. They also look exactly like what comes on the back of an M5. All business. :spin:

Good luck on the group buy!

Thanks!

They are looking for the fixture now. Yes the wagon specific jig. Two different jigs for the two CBE's.

2.5" reduction will be gone.

Trying for 2.5" to the cans, like they did for Cobb.

Like I said, long discussion on tips, and the incredible amount of work that goes into this CBE. If the double wall looks too small (Stromung thinks it will work) then I will give in.

They also mentioned nothing about the double wall needing to be resonated. I was told they had standard double wall tips that could be made just like the single wall. With all those perfect angles and all.

Only because it was Spec-ed that way. When I told them I cut out the 2.5" section of my Cobb (made by Stromung) and gained 3-4 WHP, they questioned why they ever used the reduction. They actually agreed that 3-4 WHP was significant for a CBE. Others told them it was no big deal.

They seem more than willing to work with me on minor changes. Things like the reduction and tips. Its changes to the jig, they dont want to discuss. Not without big money.

The more I see the original, the more it grows on me. But I still want to put my "stamp" on it in some way. Just a slight improvement.

Bonus Points for Style, no?

Let me talk with The manufacturere tomorrow. Once I get a little more info, I will have a timeline. I am thinking this is going to happen rather quickly. I hope to have the deal finalized next week. Get the materials ordered and start collecting deposits so i can get the production run made.

I will obviously have all the details for everyone before collecting deposits or giving the "go".

It looks like the wagon has wider cut outs than the sedan. Think there's a chance they'd tuck them more for the wagon fitment?

My apologies for another bunch of pictures.

I'm getting more and more tempted by the quad tips. IMO it looks much better tucked like brotha bochinam has been able to achieve.

It was a good weekend to install wagon cannons...

Some exhaust manufacturers are body style bigots. Thanks Stromung for showing the wagon some love. From what I understand it was more than just welding up longer tips. The wagon quads apparently needed a dedicated jig to get the angles right. Nice work guys!

Here are the parts along with a few close ups:

Stromung makes their own mufflers, and signs the tips.

It's hard to see in this photo but there are a variety of subtle angles on the welded end, down tilt, slant cut...etc.

3" to two 2.25" Nice bends eh?

http://i315.photobucket.com/albums/ll474/bochinam/P9050132.jpg

This is the only part I don't like. It's a 2.5" donut flange designed to work with the factory downpipe.

http://i315.photobucket.com/albums/ll474/bochinam/P9050133.jpg

I had to buy a Fred Beans 3" to Scooby donut adaptor to make it work with my Invidia downpipe. Bah...but it will work for now until I decide to weld up a something else.

http://i315.photobucket.com/albums/ll474/bochinam/P9050144.jpg

I know some of you are going directly from 3" flanges to the Stromung. Beware, you can get it to "work" as far as leaks are concerned, but the factory donut thingamajig with the springs is designed to be a flexible joint. Without it, the weakest link will ultimately give when the motor torques. In my case (Invidia to stock cat back) the welds at the Y failed.

http://i315.photobucket.com/albums/ll474/bochinam/P9050143.jpg

Here's the final product. I think the wagon tips sit a little higher than the sedan version? I was able to give them a slight tuck just by playing with the joint between the muffler inlet and the Y pipe.

I'm very happy with the fit and finish on the final product...and the soundtrack is to die for. :spin:
