BAC5.2
I have seen something similar for mustangs....I am looking for it now. You are thinking of the STS kit. But this is up front. I've seen this done a handful of times. Neat on a Legacy. executor485
already saw some of your work on this in another thread, glad to see you've started one of your own for it Looking forward to the results and such. I dont think you'd have this, but you "might"... The turbo is completely different from what you had before you did this mod correct? I truly wish/hope that you could have a dyno chart of the turbo in stock location VS the turbo in the position your putting it in. Given all the mods/upgrades are the same, seeing a direct power gain of this location for the turbo would be awesome. Needless to say though, your work has been most impressive and I'll be anxious to see what your results are. If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off. f1anatic
Of course we have never seen that before on a 2005-2009 Legacy GT. I've seen it on STI's and I've seen it on the 2010 Legacy GT.

But yeah, no kidding - it almost begs for an armor plate:eek:
ClimberDHexMods
Well Tino from Australia did put a 40R in the exact same location before (04 STi), but did it with a divided (twinscroll) configuration. He put a metal cover on the bottom of the turbo. [CENTER][B][I] Front Limited Slip Racing Differentials for the 5EAT now available for $1895 shipped, please inquire for details! Gire
Of course we have never seen that before on a 2005-2009 Legacy GT. I've seen it on STI's and I've seen it on the 2010 Legacy GT. +1 I thought "Oh nice. Weiner bought himself a new 2010 LGT and upgraded the turbo". Very sweet teasers nonetheless! mwiener2
I know of 1 (One) sti that had a similar setup... but it had a fully redone engine bay with a V mount radiator and intercooler. Thousand upon thousands of dollars. I'm using my stock oil pan and that's a 30r. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2049014 There have been a few other front mount turbos where the turbo inlet replaced a fog light. I have both fog lights operational. And yes, STS is threatening me with patent infringement. They seem to think their patent on their kit covers ALL non-stock location turbos on all cars. I wish them luck with their lawsuit. I got the entire hot side and exhaust done today. The oil system is done as is the coolant system. I have to connect the IC to the turbo and then to the throttle body. I also have to make an intake and stick it somewhere. I had it running today for a while to check everything and it's nice and quiet like I wanted it. As far as comparing numbers goes, there are alot of cars out ther with 30R's and stock location 30R based turbos. I should be able to get a good idea of how much faster it spools. Maybe even next week. I'm trying to keep the stock MAF based system, but it's probably Autronic time. John M
As far as STS goes, screw 'em. I don't see how they could even patent what they're doing, much less claim the rights on anything else. Being able to patent a turbo installation based on how far away it is from the engine is stupid. If I put one in my backseat, can I claim a patent on that? What about in the bed of my truck? It will be a tough claim for them though considering that's where Subaru mounts theirs from the factory now, and that turbos have been mounted close to the exhaust ports since their inception. By that logic, the stock pre-2010 location should serve as prior art that Squires shouldn't have been patentable in the first place. Subaru put the turbo like 3 feet from the exhaust ports, why is theirs treated like something new just because it's 10ft further away? Who's to say where the divisions are before you can claim it's a new product?

Weve all seen it several times. Have fun with the build. You wonder into very travelled territory
