^ Whoa!!!! :D

:) Some friends and I went out dinner in my town and we parked and caught an incredible sunset/light and the driver of the 335 happened to have has rebel so we started feverishly snapping shots.

another of my favorites, also helps to show the DIY grill

Here's my DIY grille. SECOND time I have done this, and although it was tons easier this time, I never want to do this again. Was up til 3am last night painting :( Also did the emblem. Interesting that the replacement grille that I got back from the body shop was all one piece, you could not take off the "wings." And the chrome is not that plated crap on the OEM.

So I got my grille replaced from my accident, cracked on the bottom, took the bottom honey comb grille from a mazda3 bumper.

Looks like me and the dog have some work ahead of us :)

Planning on painting my grill all black tomorrow...but 2 questions:

1) do the chrome wings on the '07 just pop off and pop right back on?

2) do you tape off the black areas and just spray paint the chrome part after sanding or paint the whole grill assembly?

3) do you guys take off the subaru emblem when you paint or take it off?

Thanks, and sorry if that sounds retarded...only had my car for a few weeks and never really have daylight to work on it since I work the graveyard and sleep all day. The weekend is when I usually accomplish projects if I'm not busy helping the parents with work around the house.

1) three screws on the back of each wing hold them in. Need small philips head to remove.

2) Spray the whole grill.

3) I took mine off.

Also I recently re-sprayed my grill for the 3rd time. After a week or so, added the stock chrome wings to the blacked out grill to see how I like it. Which do you like better, full blackout:

or blackout + chrome wings?

It was a bitch to get back on the car too and can't seem to get the gap to go away either..any suggestions??

Snap the bottom of the grill in first.. then the top. That will get rid of that gap for you.

Do you just have to get the lip of the grill under the lip on the bumper? There are two clip-like pieces under the grill and I tried fidgeting with them for a while and no luck so I just said screw it.

Easier for me to do than describe. Just like how you pull the grill outwards and upwards to release those tabs when taking off the grill, the opposite holds true for putting it back in. Use a little downward pressure as you push it back in toward your motor.

Seeing how woefully underrepresented the 2nd gens are in this thresd, i thought i would post pice of my recently completed grill. started with the stock '99 GT grill, cut out the center and filled the gaps with fiberglass, after much sanding, priming, sanding, filling, priming sanding etc, I ended up with this:

Paint is a bit too white, but i am gonna get the whole thing painted at some point.

The black paint I sprayed over the grille keeps flaking off.

Any pointers as to what I need to do to make it stick?

It's a metal grille that I would describe in appearance and form very similar to what one would have as a gutter cover.

Might want to try strip, sand and prime/wet sand before putting on the paint if you haven't yet.

Have you tried painting it with PlastiDip?? It's kind of like a rubberized paint.... I used it on my old Audi grill for about 2 years with no chipping or flaking.
