Pics of DIYand painted grills

Mine has held up pretty well actually. The only place that has came off is where the 2 bolts hold the grill on. I didn't use any plastic specific paint. When I sanded it, I started with (I think) 120 grit and slowly worked my way to about a 600 grit. Then I used an adhesion promoter then primed, painted, and clearcoated it. I used 3 coats of primer, 4 coats of paint and 4 coats of clear. Held up so far. I have painted a lot of plastic and none of the plastic paints I have used worked very well. This is the most succesfull combo I have found. I even used the adhesion promoter then LineX'ed a fourwheeler body. It's held up well too. Part of the problem I have found is there is just A ton of different plastics or formulations. Some paint combos work, some don't.

How is the material holding up over the miles? I love the look of the carbon wrap, I am redoing all of the cheesy wood pieces on the inside with this stuff

Re-painted mine a couple months ago and its holding up well. Tried to put some clear coat on top but it made it kind of a greyish color, so I just resprayed the satin black. Sorry no real clear shots of it right now but here's these:

after searching a half-dozen stores, found the plastikote black metal flake...looks like it was from 1985, though

I'm repainting (to match the car) and installing an AVO Grille and was wondering where people are getting the GT badges for them? Checked eBay and it's mostly the STI ones that keep popping up.

Currently it looks like this -

Here is my grill that I did like 2 months ago. I was gonna cut it up like the DIY grill, but painted the wings instead just to see if I liked it better, and I did.

Is that just a flat black spray on the wings?

Found the follow ups on page 16. He said he just sanded with 300, and used 8 coats of flat black primer. IMO, this is better than spending $200 on prefab, I nearly crapped when I saw how good it looked!

Now for those out there that can help me, what gets sanded and for how long? Also I'm guessing to use Plastikote on the whole assembly, emblem aside. Sounds silly, but these are the simple questions that save me headaches, swearing, and thrown equipment later on because I screwed up somewhere. :p

Decided to take the plunge. Pretty easy actually. I picked up a used grill (in case I screwed up). Took the dremel to it. I trimmed the edges based on where the notches ended up after the guts are out. I used the Fed Meyer gutter guard plastic stuff ($2.99). It was a little difficult to get the edges of the mesh tacked down but with a little CA and accelerator I got it tacked. Then just JB quiked it in place. Debadged too and moved the spec.B logo up front.
