oh that's not bad.

and i went and drove an 08 tribeca yesterday. I actually really liked it - so composed on the road! The only thing i didn't particularly like about it was how the rocker knobs for hvac controls are a little flimsy. They should just have normal knobs like we do in our leggies (though having the display right in the middle is fine)

I dont understand why the award winning interior styling of the Tribeca isnt being incorperated too all of the cars. Subaru, you did something right for once. Use that as an example.

because I am assuming the new Forester is about the same size inside as the new Impreza hatchback. The weight is about the same.

actually, if they didn't dip down and come back up a bit, before meeting the grille, if they were just straight to the grille, it might look a bit better. The Tribeca's new headlights are simpler, and better for it.

but then, the Impreza has overly shaped headlights, as well. 06-07 Imprezas headlights were nicer than 08, despite the schnoz grille. And I don't like the new Legacy upswept headlights as well as the 05-07 versions, either. everything Subaru is doing lately is getting over-styled, and the designs aren't benefiting from it. There is a difference between styling and design. Lots of styling, with no design is still not a good design.

The forester grille isn't as bad as I thought it might be. I still like the illustration from a few weeks back, better, though.

Say what you want folks, but I really like the new forrester and i think it is going to bring in many more customers than any other new model.

:whore:

There seem to be a lot of haters lately on here. The fact of the matter is that cars need to evolve to bring in new customers. If I bought a Forrester in 2004 and was looking to replace it next year, this is the type of vehicle I'd be looking at.

I am not, because I was in the market for a GT-type of car and the Legacy was the closest fit to what I wanted, but I'm definitely going to put this car on my wife's list of test drives for the replacement of her current minivan.

The exterior is following the lines of what the market is demanding - yes its bland, but that's what it takes to sell cars. The "B9" Tribeca is a case in point - with that vehicle, Subaru brought to market an SUV that was competitive but looked different from the norm and the marketplace punished Subaru with terrible sales and they had to refresh the exterior a lot quicker than I'm sure they planned.

The interior follows the cues from the Tribeca because that vehicle was widely acclaimed for its styling in the cabin. It can't match it too closely because the Forrester is down market from the Tribeca - hence the Impreza-like cues.

Overall, I think Subaru hit a solid double with the new Forrester and I'm hoping that sales will validate the logic.

My $0.02...

^^^^

Definitely has a side profile stance similar to the previous gen forrester but it also looks a little bit like a taller version of the outback/leggy wagon towards the rear. That looks like a base model - with some nicer wheels, I think we have a pretty sweet car here!

It's the Forester XT

You could see the bulge of the hood scoop under the shipping hood wrap:

I see it now that you pointed it out. I remember seeing a forrester with a blacked-out mesh grille and what looked like a lowered stance and sportier rear bumper in one of the publication documents. Maybe that will be the forrester sports? That looked pretty sweet.

Man... they GOTTA get rid of that new Chrysler grille. I hear Celine Dion singing in the background.

Everything else looks nice... except the obvious bow to Outlander/Highlander (maybe it should be the Forelander) really takes away from the uniqueness that made the original Forester... well... a Subaru.

I see a little X3 in the rear side profile picture... or am I just :spin:

I am actually liking the sport version. Looks pretty good to me. :)

What is that little sideview mirror thing on the front fender for? I know they used to have them on cars before, but it was either those or the regular ones.

Wide-angle spot mirror - commonplace in Japan - so you can see who's next to you in tight traffiic and parking. The Japanese park better than anyone in the U.S.

From what I gathered on NASIOC News and Rumors, that is actually a side/rear camera. How cool is that? Who wants to bet that wont make it to the U.S?

I actually like this Forester. It looks more like a classy mini-SUV than a weird, tall wagon.
