Here are some pics. All these pics came from early check-in on Friday, so some of the other "interesting" cars had yet to arrive. Here is our car:

My Home Depot brake ducts:

Paul from DbTuned's XT6:

Our neighbors on pit row. Nice guys and great racers, but when the hell is a clean 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo a $500 car?

Grassroots Motorsports Volvo 740 Turbo. Fast when it ran right, but a complete electrical basket case:

Their exhaust was almost as cool as ours!

VW Bug that had a rear wheel fall off while racing at least 5 times, but that would not die and kept on being fixed and sent back out to the fray:

Awesome Biodiesel Benz that ran pretty dang fast and came within a couple laps of finishing the race. I loved this car:

Alfa Romeo Spyder with a truck lid mounted radiator to avoid crash damage:

I'm going to pull the motor from the racecar sometime this week (maybe even today) and see exactly what went wrong and if anything is salvageable. We are tossing around different ideas on how to get it running as strong as possible within our $500 budget. Maybe I can find a wrecked 06-07 WRX or Forester and REALLY convince the junkyard owner to help us out  Not going to happen... If the block is semi good and the heads aren't cracked, we are probably going to deck the crap out of them to raise compression, re-ring and re-bearing the bottom end and see what we get.

Your total cost will be waaaaaay more than $500 after you add in the cost of wheels/tires, brakes, roll cage, seat, 5 point harness, window net, car registration fees, driver's registration fees and hotel/food.

i meant just as in the race in general.

i know you guys had to spend a buttload more money, hence the need for sponsors.

how much did you guys end up spending total? just on the car, not on personnel

we may be able to work something out for less. if you guys are interested

Serious? We have a $500 budget to spend for the October race. (our car was given a $0 value) As you know, the current engine is toast. We were thinking that any turbo build up would be well over $500. But if you were able to give us some kind of "bro" deal, I am sure the team would be down for something like that. I will PM Paul to see if the swap is a doable thing. The main thing I would worry about with a 2.5 LGT swap is the auto tranny (4EAT) being able to hold the power. We could always dial down the boost and make less power I guess. But what is the fun in that? :icon_twis

As tempting as this sounds.... I don't know. I am pretty sure that tranny can hold it but do we really need all that power? The way the is sitting with absolutelly no weight on it and looking at the competetion.... I think that N/A will be just fine.

Also, remember that we have to also change the wiring harness as well as ECU. That's more time and work spent.

We could spend the $500 on body reinforcement or beefing up the engine to run 24 weeks non stop.

Just my 2 cents... feel free to comment.

Swapping in an 05 LGT motor is absolutely doable as long as we have the complete wiring harness (complete with all sensors) and ECU as well. The other issue would be the tranny. The 4EAT in the racecar right now is plenty strong (actually stronger than the newer 5EAT) but to run it we'd need some kind of ECU originally intended for a turbo 4EAT car. Either that or we'd need to swap in a 5MT. Honestly, while this is all very doable and would easily make us the fastest car in the field I just can't see getting all the parts we need for under $500. Who knows though... it sure would be badass!

well like i said before i think we can work something out. let me talk to my friend tomorrow about the car and your goal may be possible.

im trying to get some better pics and see if the engine is not a complete loss. it may have sustained some damage

Damn dude! If you are serious that would be awesome:eek: I can deal with a cracked timing cover, broken pulleys and the like, as long as the real guts of the motor are intact. Do you know if the car is a 5MT or a 5EAT?

As much as I appreciate the homeboy hookup, I think we are going to stay n/a to avoid having a car that is a ridiculous ringer. I've been doing a little research and it appears that a bottom end from a 2000+ n/a 2.5 will bolt up to our DOHC heads and bump the compression up a good notch. I'll port out the heads and slap them on a junkyard shortblock and call it a day. I'm a bit sick of deflecting accusations on various forums of our team being cheaters when we played it by the book. Having an 05 LGT motor in the car would just be so out of line with the rest of the competition that it would not be fair.
