It's done! Yim and I chased our asses for while trying to figure out what happened between our initial runs last night and today. The car basically lost a bunch of power between our baseline runs and all the "tuned" runs we made. The only changes I made were adapting the coolant temp sender from the new motor to the old motor and re-installing the old knock sensor since the new one threw a code. Run after run we made decent power, but less than we expected and less than on the stock tune. Finally I plugged in an OBD-II scanner to monitor the timing and it showed only 7 degrees in the midrange and about 25 degrees up top. After swapping back on the new knock sensor the timing and power picked up immediately and here's what we ended up with:

A bit less peak whp and a whole lot less top end than the old motor, but a lot more low/midrange torque. That is pretty much exactly supposed to be the difference between the SOHC and DOHC motors, so we called it quits. Here's a comparison of the two motors:

As usual, there is some give and take going on. As is, we should be able to come off the corners harder and it'll pull well as long as we shift around 6K rpm. Not a bad thing since we can be just as fast and not work the motor as hard. Anyways, tomorrow we only have to get some logistical stuff done, because the car is DONE!@%^&*(#$

The car has been on the trailer since this afternoon and we are ready to go. Since we had some time to kill, Yim whipped out the sticker bin and we now have about 10 more "unofficial" sponsors. Lined them all up on the front doors ricer style  I especially like the ACT sticker since our car an automatic ;)

We are all here. The car is at the track and we are all relaxing at the hotel right now. There are quite a few cars that returned from the last race here. The one part of the day that sucked was our "bullshit factor" inspection. We got a 20 lap penalty even though we are a couple hundred dollars UNDER budget. We were given a $500 budget to resurrect the car and we did it for less than $300. Oh well. The car in front of us in the tech line (a really fast and well prepared looking CRX) got the same penalty and all the "judges" knew how well we did while we were running last time out. Really I think the same penalty was assessed to all the proven fast cars (like ours) and the ones that look like they should be quick  No biggy, I'm sure we'll make up the laps and be just fine. Mike Yan took some pics and he'll post them up in a bit.

Mrs. Boostjunkie here to give you all a report on how the guys are doing at Lemons. They're currently in 2nd place even though they've had to make 4 pit stops! (The car in the lead has only had to stop once.) Mike and Paul (Boostjunkie) have driven so far & Dave's in the car now. They've had both bumpers ripped off already, but so far so good!

I wish I could say we are still in second place, but unfortunately not. The car was running fairly strong (we have a wierd misfire issue to work out) till we hit an older Toyota Supra that spun out in front of us. The impact bent the left front lower control arm and had that tire knocked back about 4", enough to be scrapping against the metal of the fender well. We spent a little over 1 hour removing, cutting, bending, hammering, patching and welding it back together and in the process lost about 70 laps to the leaders. That dropped us all the way down to 56th place. We got back on the track and managed to claw our way back up to 37th place. We have some work ahead of us tomorrow morning to fix some collision damage as there isn't a single panel on the car that isn't mangled. Nothing big though, so hopefully we'll be able to gain some ground and finish a good bit higher.
