First prototype of 2-gauge cubby pod-with closing door

holy crap more pictures

cliff notes

angled gauge pod with modifications fits like a glove with room to spare

I can either:

1-expand the gap between the gauges

2-make the angle greater

at first glance (outside the car), the angle looked really small and worthless. In the car, it made a world of difference. MUCH easier to view. Enjoy the pics. This thread is nuts with pictures....

Plenty of room in the back for more of an angle. Disregard the zip-ties... I need to cut the gauge 'pinches' because the panel they mount to is thicker.

got it..any chance of angling the single pod w/ cubby

I should be able too, but that limits the width of the cubby, and / or the depth of the gauge. If the cubby was on the right side, and the gauge on the left, I think I will not have to worry about it.

Here, like this.... little photoshop (which I suck at). Cram the right gauge over all the way, which allows for more cubby.

No I think the guage should be on the drivers side and the cubby on the right of it. What if you have something in the cubby that is big, do you want it to block the guage? That would be stupid. Guage closer to driver is the only way to go.

I guess you are right about the cubby. It would be smaller over there, but the placement would make more sense. Thanks for the input, that is exactly what I am looking for. I have to take so many things into consideration that it is easy to miss something obvious.

Is it me or does it look like there is more negitive space on the right side of both the gauges verses the left? Is there any way you could fix that. Also, is there anyway to put some more space in between the 2 pods? It seems a little tight.

P.S. I love your work... awesome job.

It is always hard to tell what space issues are going to be until you make prototypes. Each iteration will look better. Next I will expand the gap, and make the angle slightly greater. The door just barely misses the gauge bezel when it starts to close, its about 3mm away. I want to add more angle but be sure I still have good clearance for people with larger gauge bezels.

How easy will it be to paint?

easy. easy to sand too. That is up to you. Once you see the new printed design, you will probably not want to sand it and keep the natural texture. Paint will stick easy to it as well. This recesses in the cubby by quite a bit, so it is almost always in a shadow unless the sun is behind you and you have the sunroof open. i.e. it will be hard to make this look bad.

Re designed the gauge pod today. Took a long time but I made it a 10 degree anlge (doubled it), and made the gap between the gauges closer to the same.

Depth might be an issue for the right gauge, but we will see. The further back in the cubby you get, the more space there is on the sides. I hope to have this design, and the cubby design tested monday.

I also designed a license plate delete and a Bypass valve adapter today. It will be a while before those come out. Especially the bypass valve adapter, I want to test this on my own car for many miles. It bolts in the stock bypass location, uses the stock recessed rubber gasket, and gives a 1" tube nipple. With this tube nipple, many aftermarket universal bypass valves can be used in the LGT... forge motorsports, vf engineering, boostsciences, turbo XS, blitz, all make them.

I have to disagree on the placement of the cubby, unless your under4'6"..you shouldn't have the seat pulled far enough up to block the view of the gauges, plus why would you even consider storing something big in a cubby on the dash, as soon as you hit the brakes it would fly forward....I think driver's side cubby would be better because you can make the cubby larger, and have a greater angle of the gauge pod hole

I doesn't have to be anything "big" even a tissue could block it. I dunno I guess do whatever I would just think the closer the guage the better too.

man this thread got big quick....

Everyone enjoy their Sundays! It is beautiful here and I am stepping aside the design work and trunk-fiberglassing so I can grill (and so my wife doesn't kill me for never being around!).

Here is a driver's view of the gauges. I held the camera right at my eye. You can tell the angle I added to the gauges help. For some reason my shutter stays open way too long when not using the flash.... so my night pictures suck.
