6th Gen Legacy Wheel Thread

Got any more shots of these, like from the side of the car and the back of the car? I'm working on picking up a set with the same wheel specs and want to see what I'm in for.

So is this alignment something I should be concerned about? I got it aligned after putting on the new wheels and the front passenger side caster is still "red" after the alignment. The tech gave me some reason when he handed me the sheet, but I can't really remember what he said since I was in such a rush to leave. Should I go back? Thanks!

There is no caster adjustment on our cars, so you're stuck with it. Otherwise your alignment looks fine. To even it out with the other side, you would need an aftermarket 0.5* positive caster bushing for the rear bushing of the front LCA and I don't think anyone makes one for the 6th Gen yet. Oh okay that makes sense. Thanks a lot! I guess I just won't worry about it for now.

While looking around the web for tire information I came upon this site: http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp. Not only did it do all of the calculations, but it shows diagrams that perfectly explain the measurements. I've seen lots of other tire calculators, but nothing this comprehensive. It helped me and I hope it helps others.

I used that for a little until I came across this: http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/

Even more detailed as it lets you specify fender and strut clearances to ensure things won't rub.

Looking for some help. I am planning on putting on a snow tire and wheel package together for my Limited. I want to replace stock 18's with a set of 17's and keep specs as close to stock as possible without affecting speedometer or anything else. What tire size and more specifically wheel size can I get without much of any impact? I was thinking 225/55/17's for tires. Wheels I was thinking 17x7.5 with a 45 offset? I am not sure how critical offset is.

I know this is a wheel thread (there are a lot of experts in here) - but has anyone run 245/45-18 tires on stock 18x7.5 wheels?

Stick the rim size into this calculator:

http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calculators/tyre-size-for-rim-size-width-calculator

It'll tell you what tire widths are recommended and what options you have for tires that will fit these wheels.

Anyway short answer is no. The recommended tire width for a 7.5 rim is either 215 or 225 (stock size). You can go as small as 205 and as big as 235.

If you try and run a wider tire on a narrower rim you won't get a good contact patch with the road. So definitely not recommended for both wear and grip.

Stock tire size for 17's is 225/55/17. This will give zero speedo error.

A 45 offset on a 17 x 7.5 rim will poke out 10mm more than the stock wheel which is +55. This fits fine and will fill out your arches a bit more than stock but shouldn't have any rubbing issues.

Check the first post for all the confirmed fitments of rim/tire sizes.

According to 1010tires the rim width range for a 245/45r18 tire is 7.5-9. Ideally you want to be in the middle of that range, so 8-8.5. If you want better grip, upgrading to a high performance tire will make a much bigger impact than 20mm extra width. Something like Pirelli P Zero A/S+, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, Continental DWS 06, etc.

If you want maximum width possible 18x8.5 +55 wheels (like stock WRX) with 255/45r18 tires. That's the setup I've got.

Thanks Andrew. I went a different route and decided to go conservative staying with stock tire size (ordered new General Altimax RT43) and just came across a set of silver STi 18x8.5 wheels I've been hunting for on Craigslist for the 225/50-18 tires. If all goes well, I'll have them tomorrow.

Nice! Going with wider 245-255 tires on those wheels would've been perfectly fine though since they're an inch wider:cool:

I think you've convinced me, Andrew. I picked up said wheels yesterday for $580 - the color is perfect for the Lapis blue. After seeing how wide the wheels are, I'm going to sell the new 225/50-18 RT43s and wait for a good deal on 245/45-18s to do it right. I think the lip will be too prone to curbage without the wider tire.

Those look sweet! And yeah that's why I went as wide as possible at 255/45-18, I curbed my one stock wheel and almost cried so I wanted to be super safe with my WRX ones:lol::lol:
