Do I take it there center bolt from the wheel ?

Just give it some force, should only be the lug nugs holding it on. Jack up higher.

If you're talking about the large center bolt - that's the axle bolt that has nothing to do with a wheel. I'm surprised your wheel is stuck on on a 2015. Stand up, face away from the car, and kick backward on different places around the tire. (tire, not rim) That should be enough force to free whatever gunk is holding that wheel on.

You should just undo the 5 lug nuts and the wheel should come off. If you're going from steelies to alloy wheels you may need longer studs. I'd check to see if there is a difference, however if you put the new wheels on and only have a small amount of thread showing, then you'll need longer studs.

As for getting your wheels off, loosen your lug nuts and put your car up on jack stands. Undo all but one lug nut (leave it on but loose). Then get a mallet and hit the wheel from the inside/back of wheel.

If all else fails take it to a tire shop and pay them to change the wheels over.

Don't confuse the poor guy! He's already having enough trouble just getting a wheel off his car which is the grand total of 5 nuts in clear view. Subaru doesn't use different size lug bolts on their hubs depending on base models with steelies or premium models with alloys. They are all the same so his lug bolts will be long enough for alloys. He may need different lug nuts however that would likely be purely for aesthetic reasons.

Thanks for clarifying Gteaser - good to know that the stud length is the same for all Legacies whether they have alloys or steel wheels.

Sounds like there may just be a bit of corrosion sticking the wheels to the hub. Nothing that a bit of gentle persuasion won't fix.

Though if you only have a jack keeping the car up I wouldn't be hitting the wheel, moving the car unnecessarily. You don't want the wheel coming off and the car falling off the jack - hence the recommendation for jack stands or taking it to a workshop with a hoist. Don't want a wheel change to end in tears.

Thoughts on running a 225/60R18 tire? I can get a really good deal on some Firestone Winterforce to throw on my stock rims for winter but that's the only 18" size they come in.

Outbacks use that size so shouldn't have any issue with suspension clearance, right? Aside from speedometer and odometer inaccuracies is there anything else to worry about?

Note to people who want to replace steelies,

Jack Up Your Car

Put a jack stand to support the one side you lifted up

Get a Big SledgeHammer

Go Underneath the car and hit the Tire

Don't take a little hammer, I'm talking about a big sledge hammer.

Fam never again steelies

Thanks for the help guys! I'm debating on a set of 20 x 8.5 Niche Concourses that are for sale on Craigslist right now. Your 19's look plenty big though, thinking the 20's may be too much with that low of an offset. Did you roll your fenders at all Kayslay?

Yea I slightly rolled my rear fenders just enough so the lip wouldn't rub the tires

Here's a link to a Legacy running 20's with 40 profile tyres: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5381824&postcount=189

I think this looks good but if I were to get wheels again I'd be looking at 19x8.5 ET45-50.

With the help of eyekyu we've put together a listing of all the rims/offsets and tire sizes that have been tried/used on the Gen6 Legacy. Stock sizes are highlighted below in bold.

Items that have been highlighted in red indicate that the tire size is out of spec (+/-2% speedo error compared to stock) or that there is an interference issue with the guard (requires fenders to be rolled).

I've also added this to the first post for future reference.
