jojorios
Interesting. So now we have 2 different situations with the flapper touching with ARP hardware and with OEM hardware. Just out of curiosity since GTeaser has both DP's, is there a way you can check to see if the holes are in the same exact spot between both the original and revised? GTEASER
Yeah, sorry guys, I need to put them side by side and do some measurements. Lagging on this one... Syndicate
FWIW My turboxs DP is boost creeping a bit as well, still getting the tune dialed in some maps it does and some it doesn't. The difference I've noticed is that its much more controllable. Like Haruachi said with the nameless anything more than 1/4 throttle and it shot to 20+ psi. Thinking about looking into getting the wastegate ported as well, if anyone knows a good shop in the northern VA area that will do it let me know. I haven't found any shops that are willing. ...I've been looking at Tim's Turbos in Annadale.
Starks
I have a spare turbo that needs some tlc, it would be great for a rebuild or upgrade...loaded up my next revision and was hitting 20 psi...wgdc is up around 64% compared to a previous 44% so my system is definitely working correctly. To me creep means climbing pressure regardless of wgdc or boost target. Also pulled my turbo down today to get my shields back in place, only took me about an hour to get it down and total about 4 hours. Look what I found! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160908/05865d9ef874760c5206c31da23b3766.jpg And fixed! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160908/f60150b5a961d97a0645305b33aa7805.jpg I thought I heard a chatter at low rpm sometimes I assume that was it. fahr_side
I have a spare turbo that needs some tlc... How about you port that housing, swap it to your car, pass that housing to the next guy who needs one ported, and so on? Most people seem to be stuck with this because they can't go that long without their car. If you guys pass an extra housing around it would make it much easier. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. Most people seem to be stuck with this because they can't go that long without their car. If you guys pass an extra housing around it would make it much easier. 1. How do I safely remove the housing? It looks like it has a machined lip that slides into the center section and is held by just the clamp. I removed the clamp and tapped it with a hammer, but it didn't move at all. 2. How useless is the turbo without the turbine housing? Assuming worst case scenario I never get one back.
fahr_side
1. Remove the circular clamp and the housing usually just separates from the CHRA. Might need a few gentle taps at most. 2. Useless, but you said it's broken anyway. The idea is you get the spare one ported, swap it onto the turbo, send the removed stock one to the next guy who needs one. Start a list, pass the spare housings down the list in order. I tell you what, if you step up like this to help the guys out, I will send you another housing FOC if you don't get one back at the end of the list. I have access to a pile of almost new VF-54 turbos here. More were bought in than we needed for the 18G conversions. Sarang
Any idea what getting it ported would cost? Would this require a retune? I'm trying to get a feel for the end-of-the-day cost before I commit.
jojorios
I was quoted 300 or 350 from all the shops I called a year ago . But none of them seemed to keen on wanting to do it. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

jojorios
You know, that's a good question. It was so long ago but the question I always posed was how much to port a turbo so I'm assuming that was just to port. Also that's NYC prices so I'm guessing it should be somewhat cheaper elsewhere. jertfunk
Seems like if we get the same shop to port them all maybe we could get a deal. Think we should wait to see what happens with nameless and the side by side comparison with the old style dp before we throw more money at it. I'm hoping nameless will do the right thing for all of us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
FLlegacy
Maybe nameless would port them free of charge, that would be a stand up thing to do. If it solves the problem anyway. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
GTEASER
Side by side pics. I took a few quick measurements and found a few small differences in the location of the pipe that extends toward the turbine which may explain the contact issue with the flapper. It amounts to about 0.050". I will mark up one of these photos tomorrow to show where I took the measurement. I also found evidence on the original design DP that shows that the flapper is very very close to the turbine tube. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/92e47aa04a5ae34f0edb5640cb319662.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/52b5137aaa24edad4e24ca1095c56cbd.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/17941611b7f9ba7a920e39f97ff8c4d2.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/a0a87f92ac95449e283db838352b4054.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/65d6123989bf61550d4fa583366f8cc2.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/f081414625d5c5db33c549a6dbc96c14.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/d70673ffe76b10e65281c9872fe8f2e6.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/d0f1a050e6d259e6dbbc7209653f2ded.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/ee240f19dcb810c6cb60317801e77572.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160912/d238d181c79d18c74c88e4b7c587c88a.jpg Edited September 12, 2016 by GTEASER GTEASER's 2012 Legacy GT - Sold GTEASER's 2009 XTeaser - Sold GTEASER's 1992 Legacy SS - Sold
FLlegacy
The flapper rubs on the original one as well...hmmm. I don't think that it really does much either way the flapper is almost completely open when it is contacting the dump pipe.
Zakster87
I'd be in on the housing swap. I'd need it sooner than later. This thing is going in one way or another, real soon. Doing timing belt kit/diff's/dp/bpv/ebcs/chargepipe in the very near future. Waiting on buying the fluids, porting the wg and figuring out how to get by without a car for a few days. :/

jojorios
Seeing them side by side, that pipe from the wastegate looks different in a couple of ways. I thought it was just going to be the entrance into the DP.
ChrisCrash
Is the new wastegate pipe thicker and shorter? It definitely seems shorter as the connection point is much closer to the bung vs the outlet compared to the original.
