Is there any reason not to paint the chrome ring that goes around the bulb as well? I understand not painting the reflector areas, but that doesn't seem to serve any function, light projection wise.

Maybe I asked about the wrong part earlier, so to clarify; the chrome ring (that the arrow is pointing to) affects high beam and turn signal performance?

Id love to see some more pics of this. With and without the color matching. Different shades of grey etc. Ill search the forums and other sites.

maybe not what you're after but, I managed to match the factory charcoal of the 05 housings/grill with a careful app of two easily found colors.

('bout halfway down page)

and electric tape ftmaskingw; still have to be careful and slow, but i found it had just the right adhesion and the elastic texture seemed to promote a smooth, even release -- just rough cut into small sharp wedges to get in all the crannys.

Below is my materials. Notice the "delicate" 3M masking tape. I would use nothing other.

This is mine taped off. Notice how many pieces of tape I used to get all the angles perfect. Take your time with this step!:

...and the finished product:

i painted the ring around the low-beam projector... the light parts of the projector are in the bowl behind the lense. The outside ring is for aeshetics only. I left the high beam and turn signal reflectors unpainted on mine.

Has anybody blacked out their '08 lights? I really like the look of the pre-'08 lights blacked with the orange piece removed, but the '08s don't have that inch-or-so-wide horizontal strip that makes it look so badass, IMO. I was thinking of pulling my lights within the next week or two just to give it a shot, but if somebody out there has already done it I'd love to see.

PS: The '08 lights look like this (my car's on the left - click for full size): http://www.cardboardtech.com/gallery/download/3625-2/CRW_8466.jpg

Not sure. I'm assuming it's the same procedure. I color matched the chrome to the DGM and IMHO, I think it looks much better than being "blacked out". But now you cost me some $, because your buddy's car with the gold Prodrives looks so good with the smoked tails, now I have to get those too..... :spin:

That's Habitual Line Stepper, and he's looking to get rid of the wheels.

Hmm i'm looking to trade for wheels that are a bit on the darker side of the color spectrum. If this is something you would like to consider please send me a PM

Blackhousing headlamps will be the same procedure no matter what vehicle you are working on. Disassembly may differ on some cars, but 99% of the time they are all put together the same.

I was referring more to what the end result actually looks like as the headlight housing is different on the '08's than all the previous years.

Man, this sucks. I did this today, everything was going well, and when I pulled off the *delicate* painters tape it pulled off chunks of the chrome! I did everything right (I thought...) by using that tape and using small chunks. Now I'm stuck with what I should do...should I respray it in chrome paint (which I know won't look nearly chrome enough) or just go all flat black or what? This sucks, it was looking awesome.

The chrome came off on just the ring, right? That chrome ring does nothing functionally. Spray it chrome if you want or paint it what ever color you went with. The whole thing (did you go black?) will look sweet. Just make sure you remove the all the chrome so it's uniform. However, if it's in the areas where the light bulbs are (high beams and turns) you will loose some light quality if the reflective material is gone.
