Do what I did, search http://www.car-parts.com for a good WRX flywheel and clutch. I just scored a 2014 WRX flywheel with clutch (around 15k miles) for only $125. The pressure disk still looks brand new. Still going to have the flywheel resurfaced and balance for my piece of mind. Overall, I'm saving at least $300 or more over a brand new conversion kit.

I've got 25,000 miles on this kit with increased power and its been great. It chatters a tiny bit when it gets really hot (I live in Seattle and sometimes those hills...) but aside from that its been rock solid.

Comes with a single mass flywheel.

Edit...

The price on this kit swings wildly apparently. I only paid a little over $300 for it, so buyer beware.

Exactly why I didn't go the light weight flywheel route, because I do a lot of city driving. I want to keep it a little light, but not super light where you end up burning your clutch out.

Some updates, been mainly driving the car because my Forester and turbo Nissan has needed mechanical love. But here are some updates

  • I noticed that switching back to Valvoline Synthetic 5w30 pretty much eliminated cold piston slap. It was getting pretty annoying with T6, not sure I'll go back to T6.
  • Noticed also the car is running 13-14psi max in cold weather. Need to fix my IAT based WGDC table to reduce it back down 11-12psi that it runs at 60*F.
  • Since I do most of my virtual dyno pulls in 2nd gear, I figured the engine doesn't spend enough time to run 13.5psi stock targets. Did a 2nd gear and 3rd gear pulls, noticed that 2nd gear actually boosts higher then 3rd gear. 2nd gear hits max 13.8psi@3379rpm, 3rd gear hits max 13.06psi@3806rpm. Thus still not sure why even 100% stock car only ran 11-12psi.
  • Clutch is starting to slip in cold weather :spin::mad:

You seem to be putting a lot of faith in virtual dyno.

AFAIK, there's no way that 2nd gear should be building more boost than 3rd gear, so maybe play the common sense card there and throw the VD data out the window?

You do a lot of REALLY detailed data logging and it's awesome, but without actual gauges or sensors is the data really that accurate? I thought VD was just a comparison tool and not a real-deal benchmark, no?

Virtual Dyno only calculates Horsepower and Torque, Boost and AFR is graphed by their raw numbers. When you open the csv in Excel you see the same exact boost & AFR numbers :). It's actually easier to see max Boost in Excel then in a graphing application like virtual dyno.

Virtual Dyno is a tuning tool, just like a real dyno is. No two real dynos will read 100% the same numbers. This is why comparing max power graphs is just a pissing contest "Mine's bigger then yours". What a real dyno is good for is, do a base run and get the base power, make changes and see if there is an increase in power. The same applies to Virtual Dyno, on the same stretch of road back to back I started with 5 HP and after adding timing I got 10 HP = WIN.

With that in mind in numerous tests, people have found Virtual Dyno to be within 5% of a real dyno.

Back to Boost though, Virtual dyno does nothing with those numbers, so the accuracy depends on the stock MAP sensor. I have an Innovate Motorsports G3 boost gauge, but its rated for 30psi which means it's hard to really tell what exact psi your in while driving :)

Nice thanks man. How heavy is the flywheel in that kit? Not a fan of light weight flywheels for daily driving.

IIRC, about 16 lbs. Huge difference from the dual mass.

Zero drivability issues, even for my wife  on downtown Seattle hills.

For more hoonigan-oriented drivers, its actually easier to drive because rev-matching is so much easier.

Cross posting this from my thread specific to ECU Tuning for fuel economy.

Been working on my Stage 2 expanded map using MickeyD's Stg2 map for reference. I added more timing to low portions of the map (city driving). Little less aggressive then the previous map I've made.

Anyway went to City B (one with mountain crossing), 114m hwy 6m city, got 31.35mpg! The temperatures were on the warmer side, I pumped up the tires to 42/40psi @43f, but the temps while driving ranged from 46-58F. Checked the warm tire pressures and they were at 46.5/45.5psi @52F.

Sadly this is reaching the 60*F ambient mark where my gas mileage magically goes up. I was hoping to to a under 50*F test, but mother nature had other plans. Either way I'm very happy with the numbers, definitely the best mpg ever for a round trip run.

Stock Map:

New Map:

Now I need to work on my city MPG. With temps hitting below 30*F daily, my calm driving city MPG has been 16.54mpg at best, and aggressive driving has been at 15.38mpg. My new stage 2 fuel map is much leaner for WOT, staying around 10.8-11.1afr, instead of low 10's. We'll post numbers as I get results (takes at least a week for me to rack up 1/4 tank of city miles, that's what happens when you drive 8 miles daily avg).

All too familiar sight on these cars. I've reinstalled it 2 or 3 times and it kept on popping out. Time to make it stay!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Interior/Carpet%20Holder/20150211_174526.jpg~original

Drilled a hole in the plastic holder and bolts and nuts ready to go.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Interior/Carpet%20Holder/20150211_175444.jpg~original

After trying to get it under the carpet a few times, I found it easier to tape the washer to the bolt.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Interior/Carpet%20Holder/20150211_180300.jpg~original

I already had a slit in my carpet, that slit allowed me to stick the screw under the carpet holder and pull it through.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Interior/Carpet%20Holder/20150211_181551.jpg~original

Used a lock washer to keep the nut from coming loose instead of a regular washer.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Interior/Carpet%20Holder/20150211_182116.jpg~original

And it's good for now... if all else fails there is this...

To make sure the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter was in order I installed a fuel pressure gauge.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_001.jpg~original

Gauge on a 3/8" tee, sadly this didn't work. Factory lines are smaller then 5/16", which means 3/8" is impossible to get on without damaging the lines and your hands (I tried, I failed, I got blisters to show for it). On my Nissan's that use 5/16" lines, I used brand new 5/16" hoses and the 3/8's tee can be used (with some convincing again).

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_002.jpg~original

Since it's very hard to find a one piece 5/16" tee, next best bet is to just make one.

Parts:

1 x 1/8"NPT Tee (Hardware stores like Lowes)

2 x 5/16" to 1/8"NTP thread Barbs (Auto stores like Autozone).

2 x 5/16" Fuel hose clamps (Auto stores or oem ones)

1 x Teflon tape

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_003.jpg~original

All done. 1/8" NPT is a self sealing thread, but with such high pressures Teflon tape just gives you an extra piece of mind.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_004.jpg~original

Pull the Fuel Pump fuse, start the car, let it die, try starting it a few times again. This should get a lot of the gas out, but still expect to get splashed when you remove the fuel hose. Add the Tee and your done.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_005.jpg~original

Test to make sure nothing is leaking by turning the key to ON but not starting the car, this should prime the fuel pump and you should see pressure on the gauge. Afterwards start the car and see if still not leaking.

Running pressures, ~35psi idling with vacuum line, ~44psi with vacuum line disconnected. Once I bypass the fuel filter inside the tank, we'll see what the fuel pressures are like.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_007.jpg~original

All done, still have to figure out the placement and where to mount it out of the way. I do eventually plan on running an FMIC, which means fuel filter will need to go elsewhere.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/Engine/Fueling/FP%20Gauge/FPGauge_006.jpg~original

Moved the fuel pressure gauge to the return line to allow for a more compact fit:

Man, I don't know how you do it - drive so far every day/week, and STILL have a ton of time to work on the car..

I love driving this car, love data, and love good food. Thus I use this as an excuse to take my wife to neighboring cities on random dates. This also helps negate my horrible driving conditions every day. My work is 4 miles away with average speed being 20mph. The car barely gets warm enough by the time I get to work. Thus it's very good for the car to drive it on the highway, oil can get warm to evaporate the water out :).

Since I live only 4 miles from work, it takes me about 10 minutes to get home. Which means I have more time to do other fun things instead being angry at other drivers in traffic.

Now once I have a kido my schedule will probably be so filled I wont have time to do all this driving and testing, so gotta get it out of the way before this summer .

Did I miss the addition of the fuel filter earlier in your thread?

Yup looks like I did it last September it took me 5 minutes in back scrolling to find it myself.

Forgot to mention, I've been battling with the odd radiator fan sometimes-always on situation. I already had the recall grey dot relay and had the ECU replaced once (estimated mileage was 80k while actual mileage was 100k).

Well finally the issue got worse and fans stayed on all of the time. Took it to the dealer, they diagnosed it as a burned ECU and replaced it free of charge.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t188/covertrussian/Cars/05%20LGT/ECU/General/ECUReplaced.png~original

What a relieve that is and so nice to finally have a silent car. For last couple months I simply had the driver side fan unplugged to keep the noise down and help with warm up speed.

Didn't mean for you to find the actual post yourself, was just curious if it was in here :)

I have 2 kids, sounds like you'll soon understand my need to ask rather than just go digging around for something that *might* not be there :)

Thanks for all that you do!

:) OBXT was my answer for with kids car and dog. Couldn't do minivan or another SUV.

I was happy to see the Navigator leave the fleet after two head fixes and 91 octane requirement.

No folding seats on 05LGT almost was a deal breaker, I almost bought a wagon for this reason. But I just love the way the sedan looks, it's one of the best looking sedan butts out there (mind you Skyline's still have sexier butts).

But the wagon is just not my cup of tea, I don't mind the way my 04 FXT looks, but it's not as long as the Legacy/Outback wagons. Now I will say the newer outback wagons (like 2010+) look great, but still not as sexy as the legacy sedan

The wagon is the perfect sleeper car. Love mine.
