Good luck TL. Hope this does it for you. And, if you're going to track the car, then go with the larger KoyoRad race radiator. Otherwise, the stock KoyoRad replacement is perfect. Just replaced it on mine after 145K miles, and only because I leaned on a nipple and cracked it.

The cracked pipe can be welded.

Isn't that inline filter replaceable ?

I'll proably give away the UP if someone wants it. I found the filters online, but I'm going to talk to m sprank about it first...

What the heck happened to that filter element?
Oil pressure SMASH! I seem to remember seeing another one in the same condition on here...

My hydraulics engineer friend was sure I had installed the filter backwards until he saw the arrow on the filter body. He thought the spring in the filter body would act like a bypass if it was installed the other way. <shrug>

Just for reference, you can put the intake on before you put the engine back in.

I notice you took it off before pulling the engine.

Here's mine as the engine coming out.

and just before going back in.

Hint, notice the bolts holding the turbo on.

Next hint. do everything you can to make sure the engine is to the passenger side as much as possible so you have lots of space by the tmic and the clutch master cylinder later on.

Well, made some progress tonight but utimately got stuck after destroying two ratchets trying to loosen head bolts. Will buy either a 3/8 beaker bar or a 1/2 12 pt. 14mm socket to go with the breaker bar I already have.

Cam bolts are a PITA as expected, this one twisted up my allen wrench and now the wrench just wants to cam out. May try a bolt extractor technique I saw on YouTube.

Timing belt looked a little tough

But the coolant crossover looked ok, just a little cosmetic surface rust.

I stripped it with a cup brush on my drill and painted it with rust converter paint. I've been pretty disappointed with my impact wrench, seems like I have to use the breaker bar on everything anyway...

A good 1/2 breaker bar with a 3ft piece of black pipe is something we all should have.

Try hitting the socket with a 3lb hammer as you try to remove a bolt. the hammer acts as a impact gun.

If your impact is not working well, is it getting enough air ?

Which gun do you have ?

Good thing your replacing that timing belt, is was not far from snapping.

My air impacts don't even remotely as well as my ingersoll rand 20v electric--that thing is a beast. One of my friends who does quite a bit of his work over at my place calls it the "God gun"

Sounds like you are making good progress though, keep the updates coming!

I have a Sears 1/2 impact that came with my first compressor. That thing has a hard time breaking lug nut's lose.

I also have a Excel 1/2" impact that has close to the power of my 3/4" Sears impact. So a lot depends on the brand of gun too.

I have a buddy with a $560 Snap-On battery impact that won't break the lugs on his Audi's. Yet, when we talked to the guy's in the pit's at the NHRA event before he bought it, they said it was great. My thought was, yea great for a race car, but what a old DD with rust ?

They are all different. There's a thread here somewhere about them.

Here is the impact kit I bought...

FIL has a huge compressor, so I don't think it's that... I'll double check the regulator tonight though.

Yea, that impact gun doesn't have enough power to blow the hat off your head.

Sorry to break the bad new to you.

Northern Tools or one of the other catalogs will have much better guns.

If I didn't have that great Excel gun I'd buy the "Thunder Gun"

Look around I'm sure you can find a great gun for around 150. I learned early on, read that as back in the late 60's, when it comes to tools, you want to buy good ones.

BMB may know where that "tools" thread is. He's great that way.

Oh yeah, I should add...

Infamous and OEM banjo bolt filters looked pretty clean, so unless I find some ugliness in the pan when I drop it I'm going to re-use the oil cooler so that saves me some cash. The original turbo inlet looks pretty darn good too, so I'm tempted to use it as well.

How much movement in the shaft on the turbo ? You know the life of them is about 100,000 miles or so. Could be a case of, pay me now or pay me more later...
