for those who yapped about the BRZ, this is what the car does:rolleyes:

And this surprised you?

Toyota's version is the GT-86. The car, from the start, has been touted as the spiritual successor to the AE-86. And that's ignoring the fact that drifters will drift anything RWD, regardless of pedigree.

Wear out e-brake pads with authority?

do that with a stock 300hp mustang, see how it goes

no, nothing surprised me...

Is that a joke? I don't get it.

Vaughn Gitten Jr. has been drifting a Mustang for quite a while... Not exactly a stock V6, but the chassis is practically identical. Falken even has a Mustang drift car.

This:

was more fun to drive than this:

That's why I'm trading the spec.B for a BRZ.

You were doing it wrong then.

Fun and fast>Fun and slow

For a professional racecar driver maybe. For regular drivers fun&fast = crash.

So "just fun" > "Fun and fast".

That's why I'm trading the spec.B for a BRZ.

I'm probably not trading the spec, it will be a decent winter-beater. I agree otherwise. And about zero sense in replying to those trolling this thread who's only sense of 'fun' is straight line acceleration.

You guys are cracking me up. You are making excuses for the BRZ being slow, by saying you aren't good drivers.

Enjoy the slowness.

Sounds like somebody's butthurt because he's not the target market for this car.

Some people just don't understand the pleasure of driving a fun, well-balanced car. All they care about is how hard they get thrown back in their seat.

Even Evo Magazine liked the car, and some of those guys drive Lambos and Zondas as dailys!

So just remember:

Why can't I have both?

Why does a car have to be slow to be fun and well balanced?

Not butthurt, I'm just laughing at people making excuses for it being slow. Will you all sing the same song when a TRD/STi variant comes out? Will they "ruin" the car by giving it more power?

It doesn't. But to be fun, lightweight, well balanced, and CHEAP, it does. You can (well, could) get a much lighter Elise with the same amount of power, and that's fast, but then you're going to pay for the lightness. You can get a Boxster with more power, and that's fast too, but then you're paying for the motor.

Will they ruin it by giving it more power? Maybe. If they slap a turbocharger on it and call it good, then I'd say yes; that approach misses the point of the car. A turbocharger is a blunt instrument; this car is a scalpel. Turbos are fine on AWD Subarus. Those cars perform by beating the road into submission, not by dancing with it.

If they give the BRZ/86 a more powerful N/A motor without adding significant weight (maybe a larger displacement flat-4), that'd be fine with me. If not, I'll take the N/A version, thank you very much.

sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.

Why do you keep bringing up that stupid argument? The car is appealing to me as is. It would be more appealing with more power, but that doesn't mean I have to like a more powerful BRZ instead of a less powerful one. I would like a more powerful BRZ more than a less powerful one. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Same here, not butthurt, but would prefer a well balanced fun rwd coupe with some low end torque. Ive already driven a small fun slow car, i had way more fun with it than i have with the obxt because of the handling, but it needed moar power. It doesnt have to be a 350hp car. Doesnt have to be stupid fast. Just want both. Especially with a di turbo engine!

I'd rather buy a used Elise for the same price as the BRZ.

You haven't driven it yet, and you are calling it a scalpel? Really? In the drift videos, you can see that they had to YANK the hand brake in order to get it to slide. Real scalpel-like quality.

Is a turbocharger a blunt instrument on the Veyron? 335i? Mini Cooper S? No.

How is it a stupid argument?

The car, as is, isn't appealing to me.

Why is your opinion worth more than mine?

And I'm laughing at people who think that a car needs a BAJILLION hp and be capable of nanosecond 1/4mi times to be fun. I'll bet the BRZ with its "paltry" 200hp will stay right on the back bumper of a Stage 2 STI from end to end of the Tail of the Dragon. And the driver will have MORE fun because he isn't constantly fighting turbo lag out of the corners.

Power is fun, yes, but it isn't neccesary.

Another example: Turbo Esprit, 2.5rs Wagon, my STI in that order on the Ohio River Run. My friend in his N/A *SUB* 200hp, 3000+lb wagon stayed right on the tail of that Esprit. Why? Well set-up suspension, N/A response, excellent driving.

There's nothing wrong with wanting more power, but there's nothing wrong with the BRZ as it stands either. It may be "slow" but it will be quick. As I've said in other thread, a BRZ is as inappropriate for straight-line racing as an STI is for roll racing. It's just dumb to expect it to fill a role it's not meant for when there's so many other better choices out there.
