Vent Boost Gauge (Digital Led Bars & numerics)

I found what I needed sort of. I should have some time tomorrow to hopefully run the boost line.

 

Finding parking light switched power is going to suck on my BIU car. I don't have that hooked up yet, just 12+ and ground right now.

Finding parking light switched power is going to suck on my BIU car. I don't have that hooked up yet, just 12+ and ground right now.

 

^ You could cheat, and wire the parking light switched power from the actual parking light. ;)

 

That's if it's coming from the outside.

 

From inside the cabin, tap anything that turns on when your parking lamp comes on. There should be an illuminated ring at your "cigarette lighter" location, as well as an illumination for the center-dash cubby (if you have a center cubby, that is :redface:).

Here is the vacuum line going through the firewall, it isn't very clear, but it's going into a rubber gasket there along with the power wire for the stereo.

I'll check into that.

 

Just filled the car with gas...I know my MPG's will be non-existent this tank.

 

Need to get my car checked, as I'm pushing 20-22PSI per this gauge...I have no reason to suspect the gauge...but 20-22PSI at 4000RPM?

 

EDIT: I hooked up the power wrong...I'll need to hook up power to a different source...will report back later on that. Looks like the 22PSI isn't real.

I need to look again, but I didn't see a grommet in the location you are talking about on my 09.

 

Hopefully I'll have a few minutes to run that tube today.

 

Where did you get the 12+ parking light switched wire?

I have no idea if the 12+ parking light wire I hooked up works or not.

 

I used the +Illumination wire from the radio....which I believe should work, as it should go to +12V when lights are on, and 0V when they're off. I need to borrow a meter from my lab at the office to confirm.

Everything is fixed!!! No more 22PSI scares, as if you have a 07+ car, the ACC+ line turns off when you run the starter motor. Per lossol's suggestion, I hooked up to fuse #26 (IGN 2), to which power stays constant during engine start, and the gauge reported -19ish vacuum at idle. I'm supposed to be getting -20-22, but I'm not sure if that's my car or a small amount of error.

Also, the color, fit and finish are damn near perfect. The dealer is going to shit a brick when I go in for an oil change, because this looks like it belongs. The LED's and OLED screen match the car's OEM lights perfectly.

 

I have to drive my gf's car today, because I have a P0037 CEL to deal with...but I'll definitely put some miles on this gauge, as it's just that awesome.

 

lossol, I think you could put this gauge up there for a wider distribution, as this really feels like a professional quality piece. I mean, how hard would it be to adapt the design for other cars? You'd probably have to do on-demand PCB, which may mean orders take some time, but I could see this gauge selling for more cars than just the 05-09 Legacy if adapted.

 

The refresh has zero lag, which makes the gauge appear responsive and spot on. This gauge is freaking great. I can't wait for the next New England meet, because this is going to make people's jaws drop.

I had mine hooked to the cigarette fuse, but was planning on moving it soon. I should be able to plumb the pressure line soon.

 

The font matches my SI panel perfectly, though it is a little whiter. Since I don't have the boost line hooked up, I don't have LED's but the OLED screens are completely unobtrusive. Not at all distracting.

Thats correct - it's the purple wire. You guys should know that in the configurations menu for this gauge you can choose illumination control to be Ambient light or Parking lights. If you choose ambient light then you do not have to wire the parking lights line. The gauge will use the sensor on the front of the gauge to sense the ambient light and adjust the brightness automatically.

 

I'm wondering about condensation...

 

Great question! Actually I had this thing in my car all spring and then when summer hit I was driving with the windows down, ac on, and the capacitive touch buttons started having problems (triggering without being touched). Although I didn't see condensation, I figured that there must be slight condensation on the inside? Not sure, It also could have been the drastic heat change from when the car was soaking in the sun all day and then the AC was turned on high.

 

Anyway I spent a lot of time making sure that the capacitive touch button re-calibration code was working correctly, made some code changes and haven't seen any more problems since. Hopefully the beta testers will give us feedback if they run into any issues like that.

One question, what's the startup time? With my current setup, my car can turnover in at little as 3-500ms, and I'm just curious how long the gauge is sampling air before the readings get thrown off.

300-500mS? man you must have a fast twist on that key. You also must have a scope?

 

The warm up time for the pressure sensor is 20mS. I give an additional 20-30 mS of time so I can establish a solid atmospheric pressure average. So about 50mS is all the gauge needs to sample the pressure on startup.

I don't have a scope, but ever since my DW650's went in, the car sometimes turns over very fast, as in wist the key, and instead of hearing the crank 3-4 times, you hear it barely once before firring up.

I think I'm gonna release a few more beta units before selling the real thing. I have pcb boards on order, they will be in by late next week. After the beta testers seem satisfied I will be putting in an order for a production quantity. It could be a few weeks to a month, unless your lucky enough to get in on the next round of beta gauges, I expect the additional beta gauges to be out in a week or so.
