Arrange it, and they will come. Legacy forum groups in Japan are rather well organized, and rather hard-core. Put those two together and you get one of the largest forum gatherings for late-model Legacies in the world. 300 members of the Mincara forum and blogs , showed up at a top-secret ski resort hidden in the mountains of Japan. Well, ok, it's not top-secret, but getting to the Fujimi Panorama Resort did require travel over a lot of remote, windy roads in Nagano prefecture. Ross and Esumi of AVO Japan joined this procession of Legacy pilgrims this Sunday, October 12th.

It wasn't quite the size of a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, but a good 300 people did show up in 220 cars. Of course, we are not talking just any car here. We are talking about turbocharged (and twin-turbocharged!) Legacies, the most popular tuner car in Japan. No, really. By the numbers, at least, the Legacy far outstrips all those other mad turbocharged Japanese cars. GT-R's? Old news. Supra's? Not even on the radar. Little brother WRX and STI models? Popular, but still less than half the sales of Legacy turbo models.

As outrageous as that number sounds for merely a forum user-group gathering, consider the fact that were two other major gatherings for Subaru Legacy owners going on on that same day! One was even in the same general area, a mere hour and $100 in tollway fees away. When you consider how much time and money it costs to get around in Japan, the size of the crowd was even more astounding. Japanese car owners are second to none when it comes to their automotive obsessions.

There was speeches, demonstrations, auctions, group hugs and raffles. Well, maybe not a group hug. AVO's presence in Japan really came into focus when they asked for a raise of hands by what parts they had on their cars. When they asked about AVO bits, over half the crowd raised their hand. Brings a tear to the eye, it does. It was a bit sad to pack up and head home at the end of the day, for the event season is really winding down now, and everybody will just have to wait for the Tokyo Auto Salon in January for the next big event.
