stevenva
Here's some quality stuff that would work great for grille material. It's already black powder coated. It is heavy duty grille used for P.A. speakers. http://www.reliablehardware.com/customspeakergrill.aspx?gclid=CKKkt6SXpKcCFZ065QodahVWEQ RIP 96 Legacy 2.2 4EAT lost reverse @ 374,000 miles

From the look of the picture it looks like the slots are still large enough for rocks and debris to fly through which would kind of eliminate the purpose of replacing the grill. Also, you mentioned 8 hours of work, but is there some kind of tutorial?
proflashrtist
I actually was torn between the gutter guard that i found, which was actually too small at about 3 inches tall, or some mesh in the garden section that wouldn't rust being that it's made to be outside in the elements. There was some more dense mesh there that might do a better job at blocking debris stuff.

The Home Depot mesh is what the PO had on mine, I went the CV way because i wanted something with more of an OEM look like the JDM style STi grill.
