Should I divorce???

Recommended Posts

So here is my situation. I have a 2005 Legacy GT Ltd 5mt that I love to drive, but lately I am wanting for more power, better handling better braking, etc. My wife drives a Saturn VUE AWD V6 (automatic) that she doesn't really love, but claims we need the space (we have a 2 month old and 3 dogs... don't get me started on the dogs!) Anyway, I have been talking with various dealers about an STI ( I had an 04 that I traded for the Legacy) but I hate the wing and want leather... fine I have a dealer who can put in leather and sell, paint & install an Impreza RS trunk no problem and for a great price! I would like my wife to take the Legacy (she loves driving it) but she doesn't want to sell the VUE (we never carry anything so big that we need the space and we can't take us, the kid, and all the dogs on a road trip in it (it's too small for all of us!), not to mention the VUE, which has 25000 miles on it is starting to sound like it has 100,000 with creaks, squeeks and rattles all over... So what should I do, divorce her or suck it up and be happy to have the Legacy and leave it at that?!?!?!?

why not just do some mods on the LGT? AP + DP + Brembo kit + JDM RSB plus Bilsteins. Drop $3K and the car will be a different beast.....more than halfway to an STi in capability with mostly OEM parts. You'd lose $3K by selling it.

That's easy........if you want more power for the LGT go get it man.......

You'll spend less on upgrading your legacy to "STi" power, then you will trading it in for one.....and you get all the creature comforts of the LGT.....

So you know my vote.....:D

Wow. Life troubles. Legacy is better in many ways than the STi from what I gather...more refined...more space...plenty power (and can be further enhanced). You're a father...you shouldn't be driving a fast boyish "race-me" car anyways...But what do I know...I have a G35 Wagon.

I would say...suck it up...keep the LGT for all the daily drives - enhance it to your tastes... blah-blah-blah

Save $$$€€€ or go ahead and buy a minivan - a Toyota Sienna (AWD) or Honda Odissey and you will be able to please your kid, wife...and the dogs all at the same time ! That's what a good daddy would do ! If you haven't gotten rid of your dogs...you're probably not gonna do it now...(I have two...and they're family). Thus more often than not you have to take them along...That is what minivans are for...for large families...with kids, and dogs and luggage. And the Odissey and/or Sienna are like the Legacy GT of minivans...they're as quick and nimble as they get for a 2 ton-bus !

Your right, I'm not gonna leaver her, and yes I am screwed for life... As for a minivan... no f'ing way! Never gonna happen, I won't have one in my garage, I won't wash it, I won't drive it... etc! One dog is small, 10lbs, one is 50lbs, and my big boy Jack is 75lbs, and no I could never live without a one of them, they are family, but my wife has this idea that we are going to take road trips with the "whole family" and it just isn't going to be possible unless we take two cars or get a bigger SUV, which is the plan just not right now... waiting on the Toyota retro Landcruiser thingy to come out in 07. As for modding the Legacy I like it the way it is, I don't want to make it a race car because it is a nice, comfortable riding car and I don't want to make it a rocket. My wife has said no to a motorcycle until the baby is older, i.e. 10 years+ so I am in desperate need of something that can move and handle some fun twisty backroads. I am also not very mechanically inclined so doing a lot of mods won't work unless I shell out the bucks to have it professionaly done and then we aren't talking about 3k anymore, not to mention I don't want to void my warranty or have to strip my Legacy back to stock everytime I take it in for warranty work! So when do I contact the lawyer????

Yeah I got the LGT on purpose. I looked at the STi and realized still being below 25 I'd get bent over in insurance fees. Plus when I look at a business exec driving an STi I still think this guy is a little 2 fast 2 furious. There are so many out there and I hardly ever see a LGT.

Your choice though.

From what I hear, with a capable suspension setup the LGT has a better wheelbase/stance for road course's than the STI. Stage II will put you at about the same power as an STI but you'd have a ton more torque and response.

I don't get why men let their wives make the final decisions. Take your hand, reach between your legs, grab a good hold of your balls and say to yourself: "God gave me these for a reason. I am a man and will start to act like one"

Then tell your wife..your the man of the house..you make the money and pay the bills and if you want a motorcycle..your gonna get one. No sense waiting 10 freakin years...that is rediculous. This will either work, or you won't have to worry about contacting a lawyer, because she will do it for ya.

In 10 years your gonna have bigger things to worry about like how many Viagra you have left and how much your back hurts from all that bowing down to your wife. You only live once, get what makes you happy and eff everything else :icon_bigg

Well, actually my wife is the bread winner in the family at present! However, this is only because... wait for it... because I stay at home with our son while she works full time, and I work part time in the evenings! But, in a couple of years when her commitment to her current employer is up she will stay at home full time while I am off making six figures for a job that is waiting for me back home... You are 100% right.. I need to put "the" pants back on and go after what I want... and yeah if that doesn't work like you said she will probably be the one calling the lawyer! Great advice guys... I knew I could count on Subaru owners for logical thinking!

 hey if my wife looked like yours, the one in your picture there, no problem! No, seriously though, she is a great woman, I couldn't have done better, and she lets me get away with a lot of crap that no other woman would have... but boy would I like to be back in an STI! I mean those things flat move, and for a guy like me who isn't too mechanically inclined they are great out of the box. Don't get me wrong, I do my own oil changes and changing brake pads..., I have done the simple things like dissabling the DRL's and the seatbelt chime... hell I even installed new speakers in the door running to an amp and a sub and another amp in the trunk... but I don't want to get into messing around with suspension and the engine or computer or the turbo. But hey, I got a lot for a guy my age, and the best is just having my new baby boy around! Everyday is another new adventure...

This fall Subaru will introduce an Impreza model called the STI Limited which is basically an STI without the wing but with leather interior and a moonroof. It'll cost the same as the regular STI and sounds perfect for you. Let your wife keep her Saturn and just trade in your LGT. Problem solved.

I think people have good ideas here...

If your wife likes the legacy, but wants more room, a wagon with pet accoutrements makes good sense, and would last a LOT longer than a Saturn Vue. If she likes the high-viewpoint of the vue, get her an Outback wagon, XT or 3.0R/LLB/VDC... what ever you can afford, and what she likes. 05 Outbacks are starting to show up used, also...

And that way, when you drive the family around, you get to drive a nice comfortable car with enough room, and probably better safety, visibility, and inclement weather ability than most SUVs in the Vue's class.

Then, wait a bit until the summer or fall, and trade in or sell outright your Legacy Sedan, for an 07 STI Limited. (I thought they are rumored to sell with the low WRX-style spoiler, but I could be mistaken, and it could be complete spoiler delete...) Leather, sunroof, and lack of a boy-racer wing might actually be exactly what you are looking for.

An Outback wagon and a STI Limited might actually be quite a pair of subarus... and complement each other pretty well.

Although, modding the LGT sedan you have is likely going to be less expensive than the cost of trading a used legacy for a new STI... It all comes down to what you want, and what you can afford.
