rporter
What are build dates of cars with bad bearings? Without going back through the posts to compile the answers, I recall just about all of the vehicles having '04 build dates. Ron
Jim_KT
^^^^^^ Agreed. Most every vehicle in this thread has a mfg. date of 2004.
Jim_KT
Update: The genuine Subaru rear hub unit arrived at my local repair shop and was installed. It was definately the passenger side rear hub unit that went tits up. Now that the car is in good working order, I can drive to the nearest Subaru dealership to make my warranty claim. FPerron
Bought mine in June of '05. Both rear wheel bearings went simultaneously after a track day at 40,000 mi. Also warped a front brake rotor at the same time. Maybe I need to drive harder
Egan
Dealer just called saying my wife's loud hum between 30mph and 70mph was indeed the left rear wheel bearing. I bought the car in June of 2005. It has aftermarket wheels with the correct offset (Volk GT-P's). I'll report back on the build date after I pick the car up this evening. JuxtaGT
Anybody have the part numbers for the wheel bearings? Can't seem to find it online.
Scooter
Don't have the fronts, but the rears are: 28473AG00A HUB UNIT COMPL R Subaruparts.com shows a list price of $124.01, and their actual price was $94.31 each, back when I bought mine in July. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. In other words: SEARCH before you post!
konrad
Bought my 06 in Dec 05, Dealer replaced my drivers front bearing in September 06 with 16K on ODO. Now, I think rear drivers bearing is going off as well. WTF!
NetOpsAJ
I have the part number for the front bearings because I had the right front replaced at 35,000 miles. When I get home tonight I will find the repair order and post the part number they listed.
JuxtaGT
^ Thanks much, still haven't found it. But.... I've been busy drooling on my new Perrin TMIC. Was careful not to use soap to clean it though.
NetOpsAJ
Found the RO. They only list 2 parts for the repair. Here are the parts and their part numbers: HUB UNIT COM - 28373AG00A COTTER PIN - 051030300 Hope this helps!
JuxtaGT
^Have an email into Subaruparts.com come about it. Looking up that P/N, it looks like there is not a right/left designation to it. Hard to tell without a diagram or something. But, $100 in parts is not so bad to fix a really annoying noise.
Jim_KT
^^^^^^^^^ They're ambidextrious, so no need to worry about L/R.
JuxtaGT
Confirmed from subaruparts.com that they indeed are symetrical. Parts are on the way. Thanks NetOpsAJ for the P/N's. Just posted in the walkthough forum about pointers for the hub replacement. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50202 Anyone who has done this care to give some pointers? hortonheat
I've had the left rear replaced twice, once at 18,000 and again at 35,000 on my 05 LGT Wagon
hortonheat
diagnosis is simple. Have them put your car on the lift, put the car in gear and acclerate slightly. THe bearing will be easy to hear. The powertrain warranty is 60,000 miles, so bearing replacement will be covered unless they claim it was caused by modifications made by you.
