I have the 5eat. I use the car for business a lot and stuck in traffic returning customer calls with a manual transmission is a little tricky so I had to compromise.

however I find that the 5EAT can do pretty good when used in the semi automatic mode.

yeah, I like the sport mode & the auto shift feature too. I dont know why manual transmissions are not all sequential like motorcycles. would be alot easier & alot more fun I think. the auto shift is close.

if we could get the STi LGT in the US I'd have to get it no question, MT & all. I guess I'd be doing more leg excercise is all, lol. Honestly, it would depend on the price. $25k usd (give or take a few bucks) was a major factor in me buying the LGT. It was a no brainer vs comparably priced cars like the accord V6. As soon as I test drove it I fell in love with it.

i have medical conditions that make shifting all day painfull. Just being able to get in and go is so nice... I had a 2002 GT wagon and it was a lot of fun but it sure hurt a lot once I got sick. So now being able to drive one handed and by myself makes the trips back from the dr. less annoying. Besides I think a 6speed would have been my first choice and be damned the pain...but SOA sucks ass, why would Legacy owners want to have fun?

I'm MT all the way. I've had AT cars for the past 10 years and I'm tired of them. My wife has had an rsx for the past 4 and I'm jealous of the 6MT ;) My requirements were an MT on the next car. I stepped down in the 'extras' from my old car, but it was worth it. Though the only thing I miss is the sunroof. otoh - if it's nice enough, I'll just take the miata :D

Yeah look I think the MT Vs EAT debate will live forever, its a bit like the SMGII Vs MT on the M3Forum. The debate will never end because MT drivers look down on EAT drivers and vice versa but thats just life too I think.

It might be MT for me this time but trust me, if I get ///M it will be SMGIII 7 Speed ALL THE WAY.

I've never owned a car with automatic and my Legacy GT is now the 4th car I've owned with a 5spd. I like manual transmissions........... But I live just outside of Houston in Galveston county. I had to evacuate for hurricane Rita. IT took me 12 1/2 hours of creep 20 feet and sit and wait. 12 1/2 hours in 104 degree heat with your nervous girl friend and her son with a manual ain't happening! Lets just say my next car with be the 5EAT! Or some sort of auto SMG would be nice. I will never own a manual again as my primary car. My fun car however will always be manual. I feel fortunate I left houston early and only had a 12 1/2 drive to Austin, I've heard pleanty of horror stories from coworkers/freinds who spent 25-40 hours on the road to drive 150+ miles. GOD bless the repubilicans for raiding the highway trust fund for tax cuts, and the democrates for spending it on cho-cho-trains which no one takes cept maybe in NYC. Trains are for ZOOO's and kids, not for getting somewhere.

Totally understand where u are coming from in that instance. I mean under normal circumstances you have enjoyed MT but to have that benefit of slipping into EAT when necessary would be great. I have to admit 12.5 hrs in that type of traffic would be a PITA and a given for the EAT.

Persoanlly, I believe this will be my very last MT, (never say never I know) but Im so looking forward to the E90 ///M3 SMGIII, its not funny.

I went with the 5eat in my GT Wagon. I've got a pretty long commute, and I get stuck in stop and go traffic pretty much every day. This is my first auto after coming from a long line of manuals.

I like the ability to have three different modes - normal auto for the horrendous traffic, sport mode for the backroads but still a lot of traffic, and sportshift when the road is clear.

This is my do it all car and I don't regret getting the auto.

I have a 5MT LGT wagon. I had to think of when I last owned an AT car. Plymouth Duster in 1986. One tough cockroach of a car. I drove it into the junkyard with 200K+ when I graduated from college. I'm getting older, but the clutch leg is fine, even in the Garden State Parkway standstill every workday.

Since then, all MT. Dodge Colt, Ford Festiva, Ford Escort GT, Alfa Spider, Alfa Milano, Alfa 164, Mazda GTX, Toyota Corolla, Taurus SHO, another Alfa 164, BMW 528, then the Legacy. I

My 5EAT LGT is the first AT I've owned for many years. After picking it up and for a few weeks, I wasn't sure I'd made the right choice, but I'm very happy with it now. And my left foot has learned to stay put.

Anyway, I'm lucky to have a little red manual 5-speed roadster waiting in my garage any time I feel the need to row the gears. If the LGT was my only car, it would be a MT.

Really happy to hear a lot of you EAT owners out there are happy, thats great news. Just means that the EAT System by Subaru is working well. Curious if they will ever develop a SMGIII or DSG system. Now that would be a trick bit of kit.

I got the 5EAT for traffic reasons and it is now proven that it is not really slower then the 5MT even with a great driver.

I pulled a 13.6 @97.3 with my 5EAT with simple stage II mods 1 cat (not high flow) stock exhaust.

another guy pulled a 13.4 with his 5EAT with a few more mods then me.

I don't think there are many stock turbo MT's that are posting better then that. Maybe 1 or 2. So the trannies are pretty equal.

MT would have been FUN but I jsut don't want to ride the clutch every single morning to work...... Oh well

we didn't ask what your times were
